REHOBOTH BEACH, Delaware — President Joe Biden’s reelection bid appeared to be nearing the point of collapse on Thursday, amid a cascade of warnings from the Democratic Party’s top leaders that they have lost confidence in his candidacy.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi each told Biden in separate meetings over the last week that he should reconsider his reelection run or risk losing and dragging the rest of the party down with him. Schumer was “pretty harsh” in his conversation with Biden, said one senior Hill Democrat briefed on the discussion.
Rep. Adam Schiff, the likely next senator from California who is close with Pelosi, became the 20th House Democrat to publicly call for Biden to step aside amid “serious concerns” about whether he can beat former President Donald Trump.
And House Democrats, party operatives and former administration officials who want Biden to step aside expressed growing optimism that the intensifying pressure campaign would finally crack the shell of defensiveness, denial and unwavering determination constructed around Biden — and that he and his most loyal aides may be starting to listen, said three people familiar with private conversations who were granted anonymity to describe them. Others viewed the leaks of the days-old conversations as a sign the petitioners have grown impatient.
“This is an absolute debacle,” said one senior Democratic official who is close to congressional leadership. “Only amateurs see a path. The red is mushrooming all across the map.”

I dont know all the ‘rules’, but I think they want Biden to release his delegates and throw open the convention. They dont want Kamala but with released delegates, they can draft anyone. If Biden hangs on (hang in there buddy!) until they have this virtual delegate count, then he is officially the candidate. After the convention, he either loses in November or, he decides to step down, or he is removed by 25th amendment, and Kamala steps in and loses in Nov. I think some in the Dem party think a new candidate can beat Trump, while some are resigned that Trump will win. Why sacrifice a Newsom for a no-win when you already want to throw Biden/Harris under the bus. I think Jill wants to hang on even when Joe is at ‘weekend at Bernie’s’ stage, so she wont give in.

Oh, and to make matters worse for them, the push for the virtual delegate count before the convention was because they have some states that by law require candidates be named earlier than the Dems set their convention date for. So they risk legal battles to get whoever their candidate is on some state ballots if they dont have a candidate by something like Aug 5???

The voters voted for Biden in the primaries because they didn’t have much choice—maybe one or two other names on the ballot that no one had heard of. No prominent Democrats dared to run against Biden. Well, RFK Jr. tried but was treated like a pariah.

the virtue of running ANYBODY besides dementia joe would be the mooting of the tens of thousands of feet of video and audio that CLEARLY show that dementia joe is little more than a zombie ... those videos converted into anti-biden ads are rightfully terrifying to Dems as they would demonstrate to the world that Democrats are knowingly trying to foist a senile zombie into the position of the leader of the free world simply to hang onto their own power ... such a realization essentially guarantees that the Dems lose the Presidency, but also is highly likely to lose beaucoup down-ballot races, including loss of the U.S. Senate and House ...

I am sorry, but some states have already held primaries and other mechanisms that determine who will be on that particular state ballot.
How could they do that before the nomination has been made and accepted? States may have a filing deadline but the dems haven’t officially nominated FJB yet
