A 5.56 round would easily defeat soft body armor at less than 200 yards.
As more details are coming out, I think it's inexcusable that two supposedly professional snipers did not neutralize the shooter before he could get a shot off.
And it was also a miracle that a single frame of that video captured an image of the bullet for about six inches of its trajectory after it nicked Trump’s ear.

Yes it was and even better, PDJT acknowledged at 7:36 am that ‘it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable....’. I have no doubt that we have divine intervention happening daily.... it’s another thing to have God acknowledged as being great, above us all and in control and all He had to do with nudge that bullet a 1/4” and it was done.
There was a rumor that a police officer went to see the roof with the reported shooter. He can onto the roof and the shooter pointed the rifle at him. The officer ducked back down, supposedly. If this is true the possibility that the shooter was spooked and shot fast also adding to the missed bullet with the president tilting his head. The shooter was on school rifle team. A trained shooter with a good zero will usually not miss at that range if they have time and 556 is pretty flat at that range. Spooked with snap shooting it’s easy to pull the shot wide.
This is speculation based on one report so I will please the report on low confidence but whatever made him not hit his target is all right by me.
