The Chosen Rise Up —- http://TheChosenRiseUp.com

SPOILERS OKAY here on this thread

Now that Episodes 1-3 of Season 4 have been in theaters for ONE week and has held a SOLID #2 Nationwide position for Theatrical releases for the past 7 days -RAW theatrical revenue Data here: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/releasegroup/gr4002566661/?ref_=bo_rl_su

As of this posting: $10,317,554 (Worldwide for just episodes 1-3)

With episodes 4,5,6 to be released in theaters on 15 February 2024 it is time to talk through Episodes 1-3

I am particularly interested in what FReeper chosen fans or chosen haters have to say about the NON-Biblical atory lines playing out in the series.

Love or hate them I think it is important to discuss and opine if you think the “extra-Biblical” storylines which make the entire series fun to watch in my opinion.

Do these storylines make you question what is Bible TRUTH or are you able to easily follow the show mentally separating what is Bible TRUTH and what is Artistic Liberty/License in creating characters, narratives, conversations events that are plausible but certainly not Divinely inspired scripture.

“The nail in the coffin was him rehearsing for the Sermon on the Mount, like a stage play spectacular...”

Saw that is an excerpt and it disgusted me. Jesus was not a businessman using good tactics for increasing market share! Instead, as Paul wrote, “This priceless treasure we hold, so to speak, in a common earthenware jar—to show that the splendid power of it belongs to God and not to us.” - 2 Cor 4

“And when they bring you before the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, don’t worry as to what defense you are going to put up or what word you are going to use. For the Holy Spirit will tell you at the time what is the right thing for you to say.” - Jesus, Luke 12

Those words would be meaningless if Jesus had to prepare his sermons and run them past the disciples for help first!

I don’t view the scene in that Jesus needed Matthew’s help but rather Jesus was taking an opportunity to make a connection

Have you ever asked your Child to “help” you with something or a task not because you need their help but rather to make a life impacting connection with them?

The CHURCH is to be more like the BRIDE of Christ. In that relationship we are to submit to HIS authority and ENJOY the freedom and the relationship in such a way that we know and do the WILL of Father God

I don’t think Matthew was a near helpless guy to being with. Nor would asking an ADULT to help be like working together on a project with your kids. It is BOTH an unbiblical view of Matthew (who wrote one of the Gospels) AND an unbiblical view of JESUS.

The problem with this series is that it misleads, and does so in a way that seems to pull believers AWAY from the Bible!

I appreciate your opinion. I just don’t share it.

Thanks again for contributing to this thread. I am sure many share your view and you give them a voice when you make a public post with a dissenting opinion.

I do sincerely appreciate my brother in Christ.

You hit on one of my favorite characters in the TV series that so many fans can relate to.

How many people do you know that were radically changed from a life completely devoted to opposition to anything God made them to be. After coming to Christ for forgiveness spent the remainder of their life serving and praising HIM !

Redemption Stories are quite awesome are they not ?

Interesting - I would think that your followers would appreciate something a bit more substantive than simply refusing to watch it.

I would think that an honest criticism that is likely shared by many others who have not taken such a harsh “boycott” position to a TV show that has the potential to reach many people with the simple Gospel message - to check the narratives depicted on the big screen with actual scripture.

I pray that you take the time and effort to critique the show rather than boycott it.

Just my 2cents worth

Definitely how that came across. It was not Jesus letting Matthew help out, it was Matthew definitely showing Jesus where he was wrong. And the Sermon on the Mount as a stage production, with Jesus rehearsing? A bridge too far.

Got it.

Sarcasm

The part that got me was when the pre-incarnate Joseph Biden appeared to Jesus before he actually delivered the sermon on the Mount prepared speech and secretly substituted Jesus prepared speech without Jesus realizing what had happened Jesus actually declared the words of the future messiah to be revealed in 2024 during the US Presidential State of the Union address.

Now the world will know who the real messiah is !

/sarcasm

And THIS is precisely the type of conversations that this show is encouraging!

Great analysis - as a fan of the chosen I still think the creepy John line is brilliantly funny.

If for no other reason many people will read your analysis and still find the line brilliantly funny.

_________________________________________________________

As long as people are intelligent enough to realize this is simply someone’s idea of “historical” fiction I don’t see it as a religious problem. The problem is when people who are not familiar with The New Testament start believing that these stories presented are factual.

The portrayal of the Apostles, John, other disciples and even Jesus as unkempt dirty is revolting to me. Jews were fastidiously clean people, even in the first century. Jesus was a carpenter. He was a house builder, perhaps not wealthy but hardly poor. He would have worn clean clothes, well kept clothes. His clothes would have been hemmed not frayed. His clothes were in such good condition that the Roman Soldiers cast lots for them after the cross, they all wanted them.

Jesus Christ was raised in a family of royal descendants of King David. These were people of pride in their heritage.

I’m not crazy about making up stories surrounding the life of The Savior but it has been done over and over again. This is just another of many and there are many errors in it’s telling of the story of Jesus.

There are several faiths involved in these productions, I’m curious how they ever decide on a story that placates all involved.

So my understanding is that while the Different Faith traditions are read into the script they don’t have any veto on the content. At the end of the day Dallas Jenkins decides what ideas end up in the screen

Halfway through 3. I love what they have done with Matthew.

I found the episode on James not getting healed totally outside Biblical record, including the fact that we have no evidence he had a limp in the first place. Other than that, I’m fine with the character development. So far, they’ve done a good job with Pilate, who just doesn’t want any trouble in his territory.
