Peter, who asked to keep his last name private for safety reasons, had shot a rifle decades ago; his wife had never shot a gun before. By the end of the day they would be returning home with one.

So would Justine Youngleson, 58, and Sandi Lazar, 65, a South African Jewish couple from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, and Jackie Rubin, 64, a former orthodox Jew who converted to Christianity, who wore a T-shirt with a giant heart on it and described herself as a “very peaceful person.”

The article does a good service overall, but I couldn’t help but notice some of the ‘lefty’ type of tropes or lies:

And again for the 1000th time - no Trump did NOT ban Muslims entering the United States you scum liar. There were a number of Muslim countries with no ban at all - he only banned entry of anyone from 26 KNOWN-TERROR-Sponsering countries.

“But many of South Florida’s Jewish voters have leaned away from DeSantis and the right, where antisemitism has also mobilized extremists.” - keep speaking the broad-stroked lies... the scum writers can’t help themselves. It is the Christian Right who will be the last ones defending the Jews.

For home defense inside a home, a shotgun loaded with heavy bird shot is more than adequate and less likely to go through walls or injure a neighbor. A pistol makes a good backup.

I’d go first for my Mossberg 930 SPX 8 shot semi auto just for sheer shock and awe then pick up the AR/AK with mags and have the G17/19 with extra mags for backup.
