Do the residents of the Gaza Strip support Hamas or suffer from it?

Haaretz newspaper promotes a claim that the residents of Gaza are victims of Hamas and not those who give it its power. The data (again) show that the reality is different.

Hanan Amior, 31.10.23

Last Friday, an article was published in the 'Haaretz' supplement about the hardships of left-wing activists among the residents of the Otef [Envelope], in view of the new horrific reality.

The repeated refrain in their words was the apparent gap between Hamas and the residents of the Gaza Strip.

The activist Neta Heiman, for example, is quoted as stating that: "The Palestinian people themselves are suffering a lot from Hamas rule."

Activist Yael Noy states that: "The Gazans are held captive by Hamas and fear Hamas more than we do."

And more.

Their words raise a real, important and interesting question:

Do not the residents of Gaza support the actions of Hamas, do not sympathize with the murderous movement and are even its victims? Or is it the opposite - their support for Hamas is strong and it is what gives the criminal terrorist organization its strength?

All the data points to a clear answer. The interviewees for the article in Haaretz newspaper are wrong and misleading. The residents of Gaza are not victims of Hamas but quite the opposite. They themselves are Hamas, they are the ones who give it its power and its legitimacy and they will also choose him again and again if he is nominated for elections.

A relatively recent survey shows that support for Hamas is already high and is even increasing following Guardian of the Walls [link]. According to this survey, 94% of Palestinians stated that they "feel proud of the performance of the Gaza Strip in the campaign".

The data is not a standard deviation as a result of the 'Guardian of the Walls' clashes. Regularly and for years [link] , the residents of the Gaza Strip are more extreme than the residents of Yosh in their support for the path of Hamas, even though the Arabs of Yosh as mentioned also support Hamas.

The massive support for Hamas in Palestinian society in general and Gazan society in particular, does not come in a vacuum. It relies on explanations and reasons that make a lot of sense.

The assumption that the Gazan public is a "victim" of Hamas is, therefore, an arrogant assumption. It includes contempt for Palestinian society, which stems from the deep difficulty of looking at the present reality and drawing the necessary difficult conclusions from it.

There is actual polling data from Gaza from June 2023 that may possibly answer the question.

If new legislative elections were held today …of those who would participate…Vote for Hamas in the Gaza Strip stands today at 44% (compared to 45% three months ago) and for Fatah at 28% (compared to 32% three months ago).

31% say Hamas is most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinian people while 21% think Fatah under president Abbas is the most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinians; 43% think neither side deserves such a role.

When asked about institutions controlled by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, 69% indicated that there is corruption in these institutions. …40% think people in the Strip can criticize Hamas’ authorities without fear and 59% think they cannot.

Let’s be clear: Hamas is the cockroach, a terrorist organization and Israel has every right to defend herself and annihilate them.

And yes, a large percentage of respondents (44%) of Gaza respondents support Hamas.

That also means 56% don’t support Hamas. The majority also think Hamas is corrupt and they can’t speak freely.

And don’t forget….Leftists love to say all Republicans are Nazis.

They had a chance to vote for several other terrorist organizations to rule them and they chose Hamas.

They made their bed now they can lie in it.

That also means 56% don’t support Hamas.

That's true!

Some of them are die hard PLO supporters.

Some of them are die hard Islamic Jihad supporters.

Some of them are die hard Hezbollah supporters.

Some of them are die hard Fatah supporters.

"Do the residents of the Gaza Strip support Hamas or suffer from it?

Both.

The author obviously labors under the delusion that the two are mutually exclusive. They are not. Similarly, there are segments of our society in America who would cut their own noses off if it somehow disadvantaged "White" America.

The Gazans are in this position because they voted Hamas into power. And now the reap the whirlwind.

You mean, like how leftists say conservatives who don’t support Trump are simply anti-woman, anti-freedom, pro-genocidal racists?

No. I mean like there are 36+ political parties in Gaza and every single one of them are anti-Israel terrorist orgs.

If 44% support Hamas, the most brutal of them all, who do you think comprises the supporters of the other parties?

Now stop responding like a child and thinking you’ve made some clever point.

its Islam - which was born in hate and death and has not changed in 1400 years.

If you are a muslim, then you either believe in hate an death or you are an apostate.

The Hamas culture of death is foreign and repulsive to Westerners, but it’s all too pervasive.

When I visited in ‘99 I was told:
“Feel free to vist just about anywhere but for your safety do NOT go to Gaza.”
Some of the West Bank towns were also on the suggested “Avoid” list.
Right now, I bet all of them are on the “Avoid” list.
