“That a good enough reason to dislike dogs and to have a healthy disdain for their owners?”

Nope. If that were the logic then you would probably hate everything associated with your life experiences.

An unsocialized dog is like a sociopath. There really is no training them. That said, most people aren’t up to the task of responsible dog ownership. Especially true of unaltered dogs. The most you can expect of them is thst they keep their dogs confined.

Whoa - this is a hornet’s nest lol.

I like dogs. But I don’t go nuts over them like most. Because I only “like” them, I would never own one. I find them more of a pain in the neck than they’re worth. Hair everywhere, slobbering, picking up after them, they ruin things at times.....I just never saw the up side FOR ME.

Having said that, my son-in-law has two dogs (I live on the property) and my son has three....all of them large dogs. I see how much they love their dogs, and I get it. My daughter-in-law loves them, but not my daughter. She finds them to be more trouble than they’re worth, but she no doubt got that from me.

If you love them, however, that’s great! Dogs are great companions and more loyal and loving than many humans, but that’s another subject lol.

Go buy some colloidal silver and deal with your injury, you’ll be alright.

Not that long ago, dogs were never secured. They however were trained.

What did you do to piss off the dog?

Unaltered dogs can “drip” all over the house.

The emotions of this subject run too wild. It is a dog vs cat person driven thing.

Yeah, sometimes the smell can get ya. That said, most pets leave the stink around.

“””There are a lot more bad people than bad dogs.
I’ll take a dog anytime over people.”””

I fully agree, and people are way more dangerous.

Sounds like a good enough reason for you to not like that dog. But without hearing both sides of the story, I can’t say you didn’t need to be bitten. (Not being entirely flippant.)

There used to be a time when a dog bit anyone it was put down. Didn’t matter the situation. You could not trust that dog anymore and human life was more valuable.

Yes you are flippant

I know a kid that was walking down the road delivering papers.

I guess that pissed off a mean one enough to attack and bite him. The dog was not supposed to running free on the streets. The owner opened the door and the dog ran out and bit the kid.

Many of the people who are making light of your injury are leftists. They belong on DU.

This is about the law. In short, the first person responsible for what their dog does is the animal owner. Each state has its own laws or case law for when that responsibility comes into play. Some states have dog bite statutes signed into law, while others use a negligence standard.

Leftists get emotional and detest the Rule of Law. Patriots usually are in the side of history and tradition.

The same mindset that scoffs at your blaming the dog and its owner, is the same mindset that cheers on looting and victim-shaming.

Welcome to post-2020 America.

“Biden has one and he has bit everyone except the ass who owns him.”

That is the one he got after having to get rid of the previous biter.

“Not that long ago, dogs were never secured.”

Hence the popularity of pellet guns back in the 50’s!

I don’t hate dogs, but the idea of having any kind of pet that serves no useful purpose always seemed odd to me.

There was a great scene from the movie “Whitefang” where the Ethan Hawke character tries to pet a sled dog in the Alaska camp of the native tribe that had befriended his traveling companion. The tribal leader scolds him, and says “Dogs aren’t for petting. Dogs are for work!” Makes sense to me.

I say kill them all!

Anybody that doesn't like dogs doesn't need to live with us sane people.

I’m not a dog hater. However as I’ve aged I’m more neutral about them. The constant pooping, needing food and water, often barking get very taxing. After saying that I would like to get one more pup before I get too aged.

Also call me silly but I swear dogs are less worthy today. I remember growing up in the 60s-70s and farm dogs especially were more loyal, brave and valuable. I’ve read some others say it’s the fault of puppy mills that just crank out pups in a numbers game to earn more money. Unlike in the old days breeders would keep the best for certain traits and off the rest! (no that exactly is what my old neighbor a life long farmer used to do, a very good and deeply religious man. He would get his new litter , wait until they were old enough to see which ones he wanted to keep or sale then trot to the creek with the others in a great big burlap bag—true story).
