Each time the word ROCK is used in the Bible in reference to any providing of the people, it is used as God being the one provided. Here is the first verse in the Bible in the KJV showing just that.
(Exo 17:6 KJV) Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Who pointed out where the ROCK was? God did. What came out of the ROCK? Water, water to drink. Who is referred to as LIVING WATER, water that must be drunk to live eternally? Jesus.
(John 7:38 KJV) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Each time the word ROCK is used, where God provides the ROCK, it is either a literal ROCK, like just above, where WATER came out of, water to allow the Isralites to live, it came from GOD, not a man.
So it goes like this, right?
Someone claims Matthew was originally written in another language, therefore someone living in the present, who has no text to which to refer, then makes an assumption of what the original text that nobody has seen or read, may have said. Then they go and build a whole theology and church doctrine on assumptions.
That alone sounds like Catholicism.
And then we’re supposed to accept that opinion as if it were fact and a proof text?
Nope.
We have the Greek NT which God saw fit to preserve in Greek, and the Greek makes the distinction.
Not to mention that throughout the Bible, God makes it clear that HE is the rock.
Ever talked to someone from a liberal church in the well-to-do suburbs?

Did Jesus Speak Aramaic?
There is wide consensus among scholars that Aramaic was the primary language spoken by the Jews of first century Palestine.
The vast majority of Jews spoke it. Jesus spoke it.
This has been the commonly accepted view since 1845, when Abraham Geiger, a German rabbi, showed that even Jewish rabbis from the first century would have spoken Aramaic. He convincingly argued that the Hebrew from the first century (Mishnaic Hebrew) only functioned as a written language, not as a living, spoken language.
Although Geiger’s thesis has been challenged, modified, and softened over the years, his general argument remains widely accepted. Most Jews living in the heartland spoke Aramaic; almost nobody spoke Hebrew.
There are two reasons most scholars believe Aramaic was the primary language of Jesus’s time—and the language Jesus spoke:
1. The overwhelming majority of documents and inscriptions recovered from the era are in Aramaic. Although documents do exist in Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and other languages, they are a minority. And even though many religious texts are in Hebrew (for example, of the Dead Sea Scrolls, 15% are in Aramaic, 3% are in Greek, and the rest in Hebrew), most nonreligious texts—contracts, invoices, ownership claims, and other kinds of ordinary communication—are in Aramaic. Moreover, of the Hebrew inscriptions found, almost all have been found in and around Jerusalem and the Judean wilderness—and virtually none have been found in Galilee. If Hebrew was spoken regularly in ordinary conversation, there is little written evidence to support it.
The second, and perhaps most convincing evidence of Aramaic primacy is that the Hebrew Scriptures were being translated into Aramaic. There may be many reasons why the Scriptures were being translated, but the most likely one is the simplest: most ordinary people could no longer understand the Scriptures in Hebrew.

Given historical testimony regarding the existence of Matthew's Gospel (or at least some portion of it) being written in Aramaic originally before being translated in Greek (because what would be the motive for lying about such a thing?), such as from Papias of Hierapolis (who lived from 60 AD to no later than 130 AD), as well as the contextual knowledge that Matthew's primary audience for his gospel was the Jews, then it just becomes a matter of applying what one knows about the Aramaic and Greek languages to come to a conclusion.
So you can take that old "go and build a whole theology and church doctrine on assumptions" canard and kindly put it away. Have a blessed day!

Peter denied, with vehemence, the Lord Jesus Christ when he could have associated himself with Him.
As I said Peter, Mary, Paul, John, and all of the Apostles, would rather have all the glory go to the Lord Jesus Christ rather than be the objects of attention by the Catholic Church.

Many mackeral snappers go even further with their slavish attention to Mary; who is never mentioned again in Scripture after being placed in John's care.
Why do Catholics have such a hard time accepting that Peter was not?
