On the road for sales, not the first time. Let a homeless guy sleep in my truck for a night, not going to deny him shelter for a night. So his water bottle fell on my Laundry open and I failed to catch it. So I've a bunch of mold and mildew on half of the clothes in my laundry basket. The interwebs go into Borax, Oxygen Bleach, Vinegar and Baking Soda. Sorry, but with the loss of Misses Founded a couple years ago, not sure where to really go. Nice shirts, Khaki Pants ect. that I want to save. The Blue Jeans and other Shirts would be a bonus to save.
A big thanks, am in very rural Iowa at the moment, hotels are full and I'd like to save my clothes and can't call my girl on a cell. I'll be sexist here and thank the freeper gals with experience, if you guys got it fire away.
Be blessed and thank you! Founded
I also have pets. I usually wash the towels in hot water and detergent first, 2 rinse cycles, then wash them again in hot water, detergent, and bleach, 2 rinse cycles.
Odoban or vinegar will work. Does not affect colors.
Sodium carbonate, or washing soda, kills mold completely. You could let your clothes soak in a solution of it, then wash normally.
“Removing mold and mildew from colored laundry.”
What is the PROBLEM with calling it African American laundry?
That’s what I was wondering
Must have been awhile
Yup. I wasn’t clear on the fact that it’s not about which washing machine, but just a “good wash”...or 2...or whatever, and - most importantly - don’t let the mold dry or put unclean clothes through the dryer.
I just spent beaucoup time/effort/$$ rebuilding my GE because I’m so thrilled with it (and turned off by the feds’ efforts to stymie the ability of new ones by making them ‘more efficient’). I’ve NEVER had to wash clothes or towels twice in it, contrasting dramatically with every single washer I’ve ever owned previously.
Totally agree on Oxyclean (sp?). In this case you probably want to get the powdered stuff that goes right in with the detergent, but pick up the spray too. stuff works great, we bought it because it was the only product that said it took out bloodstains, which it did. Now I consider it a household staple, wouldn’t do the laundry without it.
Get a plastic trash bag. Fill with clothes, oxyclean and water. Tie a knot in the top and leave under the truck overnight.
Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin, Free & Clear, Hypoallergenic Liquid Laundry Detergent - Just a bit will clean most anything.
A bit of bleach but do not mix with vinegar.
Same for vinegar but do not mix with bleach.
TSP available at the hardware stores in the paint dept.
took out bloodstains
~~~~~~~
Use PEROXIDE dripped on the stain - watch it bubble! will get blood out!
I still have my washer/dryer (don’t remember brand) I purchased at sears in 2007. Unfortunately, it was after the govt. started cracking down and I can wash in hot water but only rinse in cold. That still pisses me off.
I got lucky and this GE has warm water rinse. Can’t recall exactly when I bought it, but it was right around that timeframe (2007).
Replacing the bearings/seal/gasket was a b!tch, but well worth it.
Two since I discovered it, I layed it out to dry. Have to keep going to get the contacts in. Business is business. I have never had a worse phone for typing a message. This is beyond bad. That will be a later conversation for sure, this phone sucks, company.
Heed the old Prestone jingle: Never pick up a stranger, if you do you might be sad.
Make Sodium Carbonate
Simply heat baking soda or sodium bicarbonate in a 200 F oven for about an hour. Carbon dioxide and water will be given off, leaving dry sodium carbonate.
Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP). You may have heard of it
It USED to be a staple in almost every laundry detergent. You can find it in pure form in the paint department in most hardware stores. It’s used to dissolve the glue that holds wallpaper to the walls. Like $8-10 for a big box.
Problem was that it was over used, and caused algae blooms and kind of did some environmental damage, so instead of limiting it, it was banned. So some people buy a box and throw a few tablespoons in with the whites to keep them from getting yellow, colors from fading, without the harshness that chlorine bleach does.
Anyway, we use Oxy-clean, TSP and a LITTLE Tide (tablespoons of each) and have very good luck on our front loading washer and dryer. Best of luck, fren
I'm waiting for the final video about the big fire, drive-by and funeral services.
Thanks for the advice, but after 75 years, any naivety I may have had was gone long before I retired after 25 years in uniform in NY’s prison system.
