Brigette Brouillard, an animal expert who is the founder of Second Chances Wildlife Center in Mount Washington, Kentucky, was recently surprised by a resident of her Wildlife rescue.

Despite being an animal expert for several years, Brouillard was shocked by a little female Opossum named Yeti, who climbed into a basket of toys and camouflaged herself among the stuffed animals.

I would say it belonged in there since it was already pre-named.

I had one of those dudes make a nest on top of my car’s engine. Seems there was a fuel inject wire in the way, so that got nearly vaporized by the animal (could barely see scraps of it)...in fact it took a while to figure out why the car ran so crappy, as everything looked fine when the nest was removed. But I did manage to fix it...

How did they know its name? Did it announce it to them?

Name badge

I had a little possum come up in the back one day - came to the door looking for food - I gave him a Ritz cracker (3) - he took one from my hand just as gently as could be

I had been putting out bread for him and the raccoons on a regular basis.

One night had 5 raccoons on the deck. Hope nobody tries to sneak in that way. My guardians may be on the job lol.

It’s funny how the little opossum was named Yeti before it got into the basket. I didn’t know they could name themselves.

There’s a fellow on YouTube who feeds a huge gang of raccoons on his back deck nightly. They go thru a tub of cheap hotdogs, taking them ever so gently, one at a time, from his hand.

I don’t mind feeding possums. Raccoons are a different story. Possums are gentle and not aggressive. They live life at a slow pace. They have no defenses except the ugly scary face and being good at playing dead. My dog killed a couple of them but when we went to dispose of the carcasses they were gone. He was so proud but he had no idea. Their body temperature is too low for rabies. If one bit you which is extremely unlikely you would almost certainly not get rabies from it.

Now, raccoons are destructive and selfish. They have thumbs which make them dangerous as well as being aggressive and willing to fight. They are not nice and not worth the trouble of feeding them because when you stop they will be entitled like welfare recipients. They will take whatever they can.

Yeah, I’m not sure how much of an “animal expert” she is if a ‘possum climbing up a two foot wicker basket surprises her.

I had a jug of fish emulsion for the garden outside by the beds. Raccoons unscrewed the lid and dumped it. Not a cheap jug either. You can’t leave anything out it seems.

The raccoons spook easily if I open the door. They’ve only fought with one another (the 5 were all cool - but one night 2 did not like the other 2) - I don’t know who is who except one raccoon who always has frightened eyes but seemed rather shocked when I spoke to him LOL.

The raccoons I usually leave the door closed.

The possum I would adopt like a puppy if I could, LOL.

When I take the dog and cat out in our fenced backyard, I have to take a gun because of coyotes.

The Opossum was named Yeti and was known to the woman before entering the basket. The basket of toys is in the animal center.

My attitude towards opossums changed when I read they eat ticks and can kill snakes.
