As the fight over who will be the Speaker of the House rages on, there are some interesting sub-battles going on within the Republican Party.
Perhaps the most surprising dynamic is Donald Trump reiterating his full-throated endorsement of Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday, while McCarthy’s detractors remain almost universally Trump-supporting Republicans. It’s hard to get more “MAGA” than Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz, with the latter actually doing an “America First” tour during the last election season.

Yet, here we are, with previous alliances fraying, and several members of the anti-McCarthy group weren’t afraid to defy the former president. According to Lauren Boebert, Trump called them to tell them to “knock this off.” She took to the House floor and was having none of it.
Boebert says that Trump called them and told them to "knock this off" and vote for McCarthy.

Good for her. It’s refreshing to see actual free-thinking taking place in Congress, a body that has long been plagued by groupthink and a domineering leadership that essentially tells its members how to vote. As I wrote in an earlier piece, I believe Republican voters are sick of having an elite cabal (which yes, includes Trump) making all the decisions.
And while I get that Trump wants to flex his influence, in doing so, he’s managed to endorse two-thirds of the party’s establishment (Kevin McCarthy and Ronna McDaniel), which makes him part of the establishment. That reality can’t be brushed aside, and I think Boebert has realized she can’t straddle the fence anymore. Trump is her opposition here, and she’s not afraid to deal with that head-on. Seeing that is far preferable to seeing Republicans fall in line because they are told to.
Matt Gaetz also shared criticism of the former president and derided the endorsement of McCarthy.
Supporting McCarthy is the worst Human Resources decision President Trump has ever made.

I’m not sure what Trump is thinking here. He could have been a hero on Wednesday morning by endorsing Byron Donalds and joining some of his biggest supporters in fighting the establishment. Instead, he doubled down on his support for McCarthy. That feels a lot like Trump just wanting to be seen as supporting the “winner,” given McCarthy is likely to prevail eventually once he makes enough concessions.
That’s not leadership, though. Rather, it’s the same kind of inside baseball that so many Republican voters have come to despise. Is Trump really so desperate to regain power that he’s willing to become part of the establishment to get there? It’s hard to come to a different conclusion at this point.
That aside, the now-21 holdouts (McCarthy lost a vote on the sixth ballot) are providing a bit of inspiration in being willing to defy the person who has previously defined their movement. Donalds stepping up as a viable candidate has changed the game.
Being able to remove a failing, abusive, or corrupt speaker is hardly nothing.
You keep thinking this debacle is the problem, it’s not, it’s a symptom of the real problem which is a completely failed and corrupt leadership.
Name another job where people routinely work into their 80s or can fail so spectacularly time after time. Preserving the status quo you are so desperate to keep is suicidal.
McCarthy has 200 votes! No one can even approach half of that! Vote him in and get to work or say hello to Speaker Hakeem Jeffries!
FYI: Standard GOPe/RINO fear tactics don’t work here.
Oh look, the leader of the nincompoops has awoken!
“What in heaven’s name are you talking about? Can you tell me what the holdouts actually want? What are their demands of McCarthy? What are their procedural goals?
The truth is, they have none. They are simply begging for attention. They have no mission. They are “The Squad” of the right. This is an embarrassment.”

Stop your ignorance and read up on the actual issues. They have demands, goals, and procedures, in direct contrast to what you posted.

And you are hell-bent on preserving that rot.
No legislation can happen in the house, until this is resolved. Who knows what evil garbage the leftists plan to reign down before the swearing in of the new house! This stalemate might just be preventing such evil.
I say let the process out for as long as possible.
...that is all
I believe that Trump supports McCarthy because McCarthy lied to him and said that he’d pursue GOP retaliation for the J6 Pogrom Democrats ran for two years, imprisoning innocent protestors in its DC Gulag/Abu Ghraib prison. McCarthy also probably lied and told Trump he’d support him in the 2024 run for President, too.
I can understand it, but he’s mistaken if he thinks he can believe the promises of that Paul Ryan back-slapping SOB. No McCarthy, ever.
You know, I think what all the ‘pantshatters’ want, is for McCarthy and his team to just use the same kinds of tactics and force that Nancy used, to coerce people into falling in line and toeing the party line and voting yes when told to, voting no when told to, and raking in money to enrich themselves on the side.
I’m sure THAT would not embarrass them in the same ways they are shamed, now.
Trump’s worst enemy is Trump. Instead of selling NFT cards, maybe he should focus on J6 and campaign on issues having to do with spying on the American people, imprisoning them wrongly, using fedgov to harass, bankrupt and ruin critics.
All of which has happened under McCarthy’s watch.
Here’s what I DON’T want: 10% of the House holding the other 90% hostage. Because that’s exactly what is happening now. If the American people want Gaetz’s agenda, they will VOTE FOR IT in their upcoming elections. You just like this radical minority because you agree with them. If “The Squad” was using this exact tactic, you’d be screaming bloody murder. So spare me your mewling.
You are nothing more than a propagandist for corruption. What does something like that pay?
Grow up.
Except that many of those 75 million will not vote for him again.
And you will never get there because you will never start.
So what if Matt Gaetz is a self-centered loser? How is that any worse than the self-centered loser McCarthy? Why do you think it is so much better for McCarthy to be a corrupt self-centered do-nothing loser than for Gaetz to be a self-promoting “absolute narcissist deviant”?
Matt Gaetz is no more or less than exactly what McCarthy deserves to deal with. If you have any faith at all in McCarthy or the GOP establishment, you are a gullible, delusional rube.
And if McCarthy had done his job, Gaetz would not be a factor.
Trump will most likely get well over 80 million in '24.
Will somebody please tell Trump he is not the President?
Except for the 75 million that voted for him.”
Most of whom had also voted for Romney, McCain and Bush 43
