Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald said Sunday that there was a very simple reason that members of his chosen profession seemed unwilling to question the narrative surrounding the alleged attack on Paul Pelosi — namely the possibility that asking questions could put their careers at risk.
Greenwald laid out his theory in a Twitter thread, saying that it didn’t even matter whether or not the prevailing narrative — that the person who was arrested at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) was a far-right conspiracy theorist and election denier — was true. The point, he said, was that it couldn’t be questioned.
“It’s very possible that the instantly formed media narrative — Paul Pelosi’s attacker was a MAGA fanatic who broke in to murder Nancy — will be proven true. But right now there are so many glaring doubts and holes in that story that it just takes common sense to question this,” Greenwald began.
“It’s genuinely alarming how conditioned so much of the U.S. population is to equate skepticism toward the pronouncements of media corporations with mental illness: ‘If you don’t instantly accept what Wolf Blitzer and Andrea Mitchell claim, then you’re a crazy conspiracy theorist.'”
Greenwald went on to explain that even journalists who had questions about the prevailing narrative — on any topic — often felt as though they couldn’t say anything without risking their jobs or even their entire careers.
“It’s so crucial to understand the dynamic dominating journalism. Few journalists have career security,” Greenwald continued. “Imagine you’re a young journalist at a big media corporation. You know if you ask these questions, Twitter will explode and it can ruin your career.”
He then shared a tweet from Steve Krakauer that included just a few of the questions he thought media ought to be asking.
“Why wasn’t there signs of forced entry at Pelosi home?”
“Who was 3rd person who opened door for police?”
“Why was Pelosi holding hammer and attack only happened after police arrived?”
“Where is bodycam/security footage?”
“Why isn’t the press asking these questions?”
“This happened during Russiagate,” Greenwald added, saying that he had gotten a number of messages from journalists who worked for larger media corporations — and they had expressed their thanks that he was willing to question the narrative because they couldn’t do it.
“One Twitter mob against them for questioning Dem narrative (see @DashaBurns or @BoKnowNews) can be career-ending,” he said.
Greenwald said that he believed many journalists saw the “glaring questions and evidentiary holes” in the story that had been pushed so far regarding Pelosi, but especially in the last days before the midterm election, the narrative was even more important than usual. “Why stick their heads up, provoke a liberal Twitter mob, and be branded?” he asked. “That’s the climate.”
“Police investigating the Paul Pelosi attack continue to state they *do not know the motive.* Yet liberal “thought leaders” like @HillaryClinton and @jimmykimmel have decreed that not only is the motive known to them, but only insane or malicious people would question them,” Greenwald continued.
Greenwald went on to say that he wasn’t ready to ascribe any motives because he didn’t feel that he’d seen enough evidence to do so, adding, “The preferred narrative may end up right but most of it is based on massaged-by-CNN anonymous claims.”
He then listed the questions he’d like to see answered before claiming he understood exactly what went down in the Pelosi’s home:
“How someone broke into the home of one of the richest and most powerful families without setting off an alarm?”
“How Paul Pelosi could call 9/11 in the middle of this?”
“Who is the ‘unknown’ person who opened the door for the police?”
“Where is the video?”
Dear conscientious writers and would-be writers: This is what you get with your Journalism degree, i.e., a lifetime membership to the “pravda club.” And it’s really a CLUB, too! To beat people with!
If you value your craft as a writer, GO GALT on the writing establishment. Make your living in another profession and write like h3ll in your spare hours.
Here’s a fun visualization for anyone entertaining trying to “work in journalism” - Even if you are a straight-up reporter and have no interest in so-called creative or imaginative writing, you will have written something “from the heart” at some point in your life, an expression of belief or passion, a fantasy, poetry, or what-have-you.
Holding that in mind - haha, it might already be a little painful, right? because not very good but it was YOU - try to remember how offended and hurt you were when someone read this passionate piece and mocked it, tried to “fix” it, or outright plagiarized it.
Sure, that’s all part of being a writer, is it not? Letting the experts crap all over your stuff, letting everybody “fix” it and criticize it and so on. But you never forget the initial shock of seeing someone edit your best work and turn it into a slovenly, meaningless, miasma of words.
Okay, now that you’re experiencing that, extend that feeling of hurt and offense - that will never quite go away - into the future and seeing these editors cut into your work until you can’t recognize it, or force you to eliminate meaning from it, or penalize you for being too truthful, or simply appropriate whatever is good about it and say that they did it.
Think of how hard it will be in the future to place any kind of value on craft or truthfulness, when you think back to your initial days of writing and how proud and forceful you were compared to the dead-eyed lackey of the Left you’ll eventually (or quickly!) turn into.
It’s not worth it. Go Galt on the writing establishment and be a free man or woman. You will actually gain influence as a writer by staying out of the meat grinder.
Also, everyone I ever knew who wanted to be a writer - esp to go into journalism - turned into a first-class a$$hole after a short time. At first the person would be saying things about how hateful all the other writers are, then s/he either goes nuts or turns into a first-class a$$hole him/herself. It never fails. (And then they’re a first-class a$$hole who shouts “BUY MY BOOK” at you until you become anti-book.)
BTW, in addition, notice how the NYT has kept this off the front page and below thee fold. They now more than they are reporting.
“It’s so crucial...”
Passive voice. Who taught him to write?
One Guy asks, why is it so crucial?
When the duty to advance the duly designated narrative is mixed into the air budding fake news journos breathe, the pumpkin spice lattes they drink, the whatever hip food it is that they eat, they need not even think or be awake to know that that is what they are being paid to do.
Crucial for consumers of news? The consumers of fake news are like the chronically cheated-upon spouse—”Lie to me, pretend that you love me.” They are using the so-called mainstream media news to learn what the lie of the day is. The last thing they are looking for is the truth.
Those who know that employees of any large, “mainstream”, corporate news organizations never, ever spend more than a second and a half listening to or watching those sources. Crucial? Once again, these kinds of people, who never settle, and are only interested in the truth, have long since left these organizations behind, including financially.
The only people left are those whose cognition is so damaged from the sinful lives they lead that they generally wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the truth and a lie, even if this author went to every length possible to explain the difference. “Crucial” for them = all base forms of entertainment and satisfaction.
The only difference between a Science Fiction writer and a journalist is that the science fiction writer is obliged to stay within the realm of possibility...........
Right? LOL
Science fiction writers get called on the carpet by their fans for not sticking to the scientifically plausible. Journalists, on the other hand....
Why hasn’t NANZI flown to her injured husband’s side in her flying carbon footprint?
Sorry for the thinko:
Those who know that employees of any large, “mainstream”, corporate news organizations ***are inveterate, paid liars***...
MSM:
If we don’t report it, it didn’t happen...............
Yep, they wouldn’t be afraid to ask questions that need to be asked if they hadn’t allowed themselves to be stooges to the left for years.
Sorry for the thinko:
Those who know that employees of any large, “mainstream”, corporate news organizations ***are inveterate, paid liars***...
That ‘girl ‘ looks familiar......................
No one could possibly believe this even from what few facts have been released, but the lying media will continue to trumpet this false narrative.
As I wrote above, tee NYT has stayed out of this because they know what’s happening. If this was a real story of a (D) getting the crap beat out of him it would front page above the fold story and it’s not.
🤦♀️🤷♀️🤷♂️🤦♂️😉..........................................
It will fade into the sunset
