Russian nationals living in Estonia will have their firearms forcibly confiscated by the police if they refuse to hand them over voluntarily under a new law.
The gun confiscation measure will also apply to Belarusians living in the eastern European country.
The government has finalized the details of the bill and it will be put before the legislature, after which it is expected to be voted into law.

Switch jews to germans and you’re much more accurate.
“an excuse and scapegoat for all their troubles”
So you mean the Democrats blaming Russia for Trump winning?
There are Russian Nationals who are living in a country not their own and that they have no loyalty to.
The Japanese in the Americas during WWII are a closer comparison.
They could do what Peru did and round them up and ship them out.
So suddenly now all these Russian nationals are a problem? Literally why wasn’t this a problem the last several decades?
Think about how shallow a reply that was, more just a ‘comeback’ than an actual serious thought.
No, I mean like blaming the Jews for the bad post WWI economy at the time. Accusing the Jews of contaminating the ‘master race’.
Yeah but they are also covered under the states that Putin said didn't have a right to exist.
It's hard to believe Putin would attack a NATO country after being so weakened by Ukraine.
But I certainly don't blame Estonia for taking some precautions.
Also, there are the sleeper accounts that suddenly reactived after the election after being inactive since 2016. I’m guessing they are the neocon Trump haters.
When the USSR broke up and was no longer a threat, the Russian nationals were not regarded as a threat.
Now that Russia is invading their neighbors, threatening other neighbors and those same Russian nationals are going "Yay for Russia" now a threat. The same as any number of countries in the Americans suddenly found the Japanese nationals a threat when their neighbors were attacked and Japan told the world it intended to make the Pacific a Japanese lake.
You did study 20th century history in school didn't you?
Or any history?
Perhaps read a pamphlet that might have mentioned something about history?
Watching neocons twist themselves into pretzels claiming people do not have a natural right to defend themselves really shows their true communist globohomo allegiance
Did massive amounts of Russian Estonians threaten the government with armed violence? No? Then you are being stupid
I am sure relieved that the US government can be trusted as it always does what it promises.
And I'm the rubber, you're the glue, your insults bounce off of me and stick to you.
Apparently it was a problem from the 1990s. There was opposition to independence from Russian immigrants in the Baltics.
Estonia is extremely ethno-centric in its citizenship laws. A lot of Freepers would probably approve of the Estonian take on this. There is no birthright citizenship unless one has Estonian ancestry going back several generations. One can, it seems, live in Estonia as a resident, but cannot aquire citizenship without passing an Estonian language test and other onerous requirements.

You are absolutely on to them.
This all goes back to how the communists treated the Estonians. Many native Estonians were deported by Stalin, many went to the Gulag never to return, many were killed in place. (It’s true for all the Baltic states!) Stalin and other Soviet dictators moved in ethnic Russians to make up for the population loss.
I agree. makes me want to move to West Texas.
Particularly a country with a history of aggression against your country, of mass arrests and deportations to Siberia, executions, colonization and the supression of your language and culture.
A neighbor in short with a history of genocide against your people.
Every nation with large Russian minority populations should have expelled them like they did the Germans.
Time to use the guns.
>Yes. They are.
