When I first saw this story, the bland headline (“Frederick Doughnut Shop Workers Say Business Shut Down Without Paying Them”) did not prepare me for the wonderfulness I would ultimately find:
A doughnut shop in Frederick, Maryland, abruptly shut down last week, and workers said they’re owed weeks in pay.
Glory Doughnuts & Diner on W. Patrick Street felt like home, its employees said. That all changed early Friday; the landlord shut the shop down over months of unpaid rent.
Without warning, 10 people were out of a job. They said they knew the business had been struggling, and some hadn’t been paid for several pay periods.
“They had us working when they didn’t know if they were ever going to be able to pay us,” former general manager Kiska Greenberg said Monday.
Ex-employee Shelby Turner said she was disappointed.
“I really cared for them. I felt like they were part of the family,” Turner said. Her paychecks began to bounce in recent months, she said.

The doughnuts all had this funny fishy taste.
Weird, how they’re vegan and all.
So if I understand the article correctly, the workers were treated like family in that they were not paid for their labor and they had no warning they were about to lose their jobs even though the business was unable to pay its bills nor make payroll?
Let me guess, these same people were complaining about the heartless business owners who worried about COVID shutdowns.
I'm no beauty, but those two proprietors are ugly they would turn my stomach. 🤓
“...Krispy Kreme is proof of God’s existence.”
And cavities nullify the evolution theory.
“Frederick’s of Donutworld”?
And why were the employees not out of there when the first pay check bounced? sounds like flawed thinking all the way around
Hey, thanks for the list not including why. Why is not in the purview of journalism.
I know which specific places in LA had the BLM signs in their windows. I made sure never to give them money.
I feel sorry for nobody involved in this stupid venture run by mentally ill twats. Vegan-lesbo=fail
Scary looking. Employees should’ve walked and reported them to labor board at the first paycheck bounce
So, no more doughnut bumping?
Very funny article about a couple of freaks. Wow. They were savin’ da planet with Vegan donuts and bouncing paychecks. LOL!
Way back when I was in the USAF, I worked a part time at the base theater concession stand. The theater was run by AAFES, but the concession stand was run by a contractor.
I had a security clearance, and bouncing a check was a big no-no. Well, I cashed my paltry paycheck at the BX on base (signed it over to them). About a week later, I got called into my Commander's office. He wanted to know why I'd bounced a check at the BX.
I explained to him that it wasn't a check I wrote, but one that it was my concession pay check. He called AAFES on base on my behalf. The boss-lady at the BX on cession stand was a co-worker's wife. She told me to sign the next check over to the concession stand company, she'd deposit it in the concession stand's account and paid my out of the cash register. I moved up to the projectionists job that was actually paid by AAFES.
One other thing.. Donuts are a New England staple with Dunkin, Honey Dew, Bess Eaton, Whole Donut and single store outlet. They should’ve tried it there. Do Marylanders eat donuts?
Two is not.
“ Eating out the glory donut holes”
If a man were to slip his manhood through a lesbian donut glory hole……. he wouldn’t get it back.
So paychecks were bouncing and yet the employees stayed when the handwriting was on the wall. Dumb doesn’t begin to describe this.
Aside from all the obvious criticism here, it is hard to make a good vegan doughnut. A lot of flavor is derived from animal products.
