Boric acid is a low-toxicity mineral with insecticidal, fungicidal, and herbicidal properties. Boric Acid, which kills roaches, water bugs, ants, fleas and silverfish. With boric acid powder, insects walk through the dust, ingest it, and die within hours.
While boric acid is a pesticide, you'll find boric acid used in fertilizers, household cleaners, laundry detergents, and even personal care products. You also may be surprised to know that boric acid is a component of a baby's mattress, and even food, but it is!

Dispose of the bodies of those pesky FBI types when they come sniffing around your cabin...
Where are you seeing it for $3/#?
TIA
Cures stinky feet too.
Amazon, hot shot brand, free shipping.
I know Amazon is evil, sorry.
Also Home Depot has it for a similar price, if you can drop by one locally.
I remember my grandmother having this in the house, but I can’t recall her ever using it for anything. I’ve used Borax for home-made laundry detergent, though.
One more comment.
The shelf life of boric acid seems to be forever if kept dry. It breaks down in temps over 200 degrees, according to something I read. Maybe the temperature requirement isn’t as lax as this though.
Isn’t this what “Borax” is?
Hot Shot is not 100% BA....saw this, on the review/questions....
Hi Charlie, thank you for the inquiry regarding our Hot Shot MaxAttrax 1 lb. Roach Killing Powder with Boric Acid. This product contains 99.0% Orthoboric Acid....
Just an FYI. No idea what the remaining ingredient(s) are.
borax is different than boric acid. They both come from Boron. It looks like boric acid is better for insects, but borax for some other things like cleaning. A lot of overlap though

Looks like all boric acid powder products are the 99%. With 1% being ‘other ingredients’.
Even the larger, five and twenty five pound buckets.
Yeah a lot of powder bug killer is boric acid. We use it in jewelry industry mixed with denatured alcohol for a coating on gem stones to help protect them from the heat. Leaves a glass type coating.
I have some bulk boric acid I use to get rid of bugs sometimes. Mixing up a batch, saturating cotton ball etc takes time, lately I’m more likely to grab a can of big spray, or sprinkle Amdro where I see ants and bugs.
Yes, it’s derived from the acid.
I was anxious to use the home-made detergent recipe because it’s so economical. But it doesn’t work very well.
what’s your recipe for mixing it?
>> Boric acid is a low-toxicity mineral <<
Wow, I checked out quickly! Not a mineral.
>> low-toxicity ... with insecticidal, fungicidal, and herbicidal properties
IOW, not low-toxicity. But since that’s a relative term and I’m already checked out, OK, whatever...
>> Boric Acid, which kills roaches, water bugs, ants, fleas and silverfish. <<
Not a sentence...
WHO WROTE THIS?
Best treatment for Carpenter Ants I’ve ever used, with no toxicity problems.
Pingman, if you give me some detail on how you are using it for carpenter ants? Are you mixing it with something, in what ratio? Where are you putting it? Thank you.
It’s already helpful to know it works on this specific type of ant. But I have heard you need to mix it differently depending on which type of ant you are targeting.
boron is a mineral
I kind of butchered the article to make it a citation because it was long winded, and I wanted to include the key points for concise reading. So some of the blame for structure might be mine.
