I had a good friend in my Air Force days who was a full blooded Chippewa Indian.

The terms Native American and First Nations used to piss him off.

He said, “I’m an Injun, damn it, and proud of it!”

Because we all know, indiginous people didn’t wage wars, didn’t conquer one another, didn’t have slaves... Yes, yes, these sometimes nomadic people that sucked the life out of the land and then moved on when it was no longer able to sustain them, were in complete tune with nature, they were all organic, green, sustainable people living in egalitarian communes in harmoney between the sexes, races, each other, nature... LOL

Everything they claim is wrong and bad about Columbus is true. But what they fail to realize is that they are glorifying - romanticising people that were in part canibal, had human sacrifices of men and women, were more racist than the worst racist alive today, also had slaves, also loved gold, also waged wars, also had a class society with unequal wealth distribution, also defined the sexes and their roles, also chopped down trees, ate meat, and plundered each other.

The ONLY difference is that today, ANYTHING Euro, Christian, capitalist, white, male, or speaks to American exceptionalism is gets “critical thought” applied to it. But do not dare do that to the special people/groups!!! That will get you labeled immedietly!!!

This is COLUMBUS DAY—not some politically correct pile of excrement meant to dishonor Christopher (Christophoros) Columbus!!!!

Columbus was likely a Byzantine prince from the island of Chios, then owned by the Republic of Genoa:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoC7n-XESAc

A devout Catholic, he (or his parents) were probably originally Orthodox!

Italian Americans can celebrate Columbus Day because Chios was a colony of Genoa. And ALL Americans can celebrate Columbus Day because he made our country possible, and brought Christianity and Western civilization to the New World!!!!

And Hispanic Americans can celebrate Columbus Day as Dia de la Raza!

“Indigenous Peoples’ Day” is a humbug promoted by filthy communist traitors, like AOC, pelosi, biden, etc!!!! PHOOEY to them all!!!!

Joe, he’s attempting to divide the pie so many times, there
just is NOTHING left for anyone. Really, it is doubtful the dude knows the definition of indigenous. Let alone, knows who
Columbus might be. Indigenous, to him, probably means: to suffer from indigestion, especially at his age.

The Afghans, Cubans, Haitians and others, will they be pleased as punch in this proclamation (just as US Citizens might be)?

The wooden puppet is sick, sick, SICK.

Ignore them……don’t buy into it. Use Columbus Day wherever and whenever you can. I live in a University town….they tried to change a tradition we had for decades. The students ignored the new million dollar campaign and here we are 10 years later and the original tradition is bigger than ever.

Slowly but surely taking away anything that defines us as a culture and society and replacing it with their holidays.

This is why they’ve been so eager to shut down all holidays this past year and a half.

They want us to forget our history and what defines us as a country.

Likewise, Deaf individuals prefer Deaf, not hearing impaired.

They don’t consider themselves impaired and resent the hearing world’s deciding what to label the.

They are Deaf - Big D Deaf, and it’s a cultural thing not just a physical issue. Deaf culture transcends race and gender like nothing else I have seen.

I think Indigenous Peoples Day should have a day of its own ie leave Columbus Day ALONE.

Put Indigenous Peoples Day the day after Christmas...the Feds give their employees the day off every year anyway.

I like Native Americans and think they should have a day to honor them.

And, not one of them has donated his property to the relevant native nation that used to hunt and gather where his house is.

My neighbor, 1/4 Indian, took me up to a nearby mountaintop to watch the world end on the day the Aztec calendar stopped, which was supposed to indicate the end of time.

We had dinner reservations afterward.

One of our nearby tribes, the Kalispell, have a terrific casino with great food. Also, the tribe bought up the last acreage along Priest River, Idaho, now inhabited by out-of-state multimillionaires in huge houses with acres waterfront land, and opened their Indian land to local residents so they could launch their boats for free without paying exorbitant fees. I’m fine with our local Indians.

I just don’t know why you advocated getting rid of Columbus Day.

Columbus Day us in fact Indigenous peoples freedom day for Mexico.

Columbus marked the beginning of freedom for many under bloodthirsty slave regimes.

“I’m not.”

Ok. I hear ya.

In 30 it seemed that’s what you said:

“It conservatives were smart a decade ago when the whispers of what Columbus did was getting attention, we should have changed it to Italian heritage day.”

Ok. I guess I did say to change the name to keep the day. Instead we are going to permanently lose it.
