Some folks here on Free Republic appear to be heavily into wanting to "make us barf" for some odd reason.
This is evidenced by the multitude of articles posted here that have "BARF" or "BARF ALERT" in parentheses after the title.
Apparently the poster is still perusing mainstream media sites - mainstream media that skews heavily to the Left and has an agenda to tag all patriotic conservatives as racists and insurrectionists who should be herded onto cattle cars and hauled off to re-education camps like they did in days of Stalin and Hitler.
So typically the poster comes across a particularly obnoxious article on one of these mainstream media sites that either contains totally fake news or perhaps an attack on our values and beliefs. The poster knows full well that it will only anger and inflame the rest of us here, who mostly are doing our very best to avoid that kind of stuff. However they have decided to bring it over here and subject us to it just the same.
By putting the "Barf Alert" at the end of the subject title, they apparently wish to insulate themselves, to proclaim to us that despite the fact that the article they are posting is going to make us want to projectile hurl our breakfast into the nearest toilet, that their motives are pure and that they just want to "keep us informed" on what the other side is saying.
Well you aren't doing us any favors!
We already know that the other side hates us. We already know that mainstream media is controlled by Leftists and that they are in cahoots with the establishment elite to help rig elections, sway opinions, destroy family values, erode the middle class and drag America into a socialist hell-hole in which they (the elite) will gain additional wealth and power over the rest of us.
So whenever we drag that kind of content over here, we are only helping the other side. We are validating them (as sources of news) and helping to give them power over us. The typical replies to these sort of threads is similarly depressing and chock full of "all is lost" and "system is rigged against us and there's no hope" and "I'm stockpiling bullets and canned sardines for the civil war that is sure to come."
Instead of ignoring them and taking positive action like building out our own platforms, our own media and organizing (like the Left does), we end up gnashing our teeth at all the things the "other side" is saying and wallowing in the negativity.
Speaking for myself, I don't come to Free Republic to get bummed out or to "barf" or to wallow in "all is lost" negativity.
I cut my cable years ago (and give some of the money I'm saving on it to Free Republic each month). I removed mainstream media from my life. And I'm much better for it. I'm a more positive person. I've kept my sense of humor (bizarre as it can be), and I'm physically and emotionally very healthy because I keep all that negativity out of my life.
I guess the only redeeming thing about "Barf Alerts" here is that it helps identifies the threads that are best avoided for my overall mental health (and to keep the nutritious food I just ate inside my body).
Know thy enemy.
Helps to know what to be ready to refute this week.
“Barf Alerts” = conservative virtue signaling.
I absolutely do NOT read “ barf alerts,” just as I avoid all other leftist sites.
I’ve stopped reading Babylon Bee articles, too. I get the satire, but.....
I can’t take the stress anymore.
That pic is a BARK ALERT.
I don’t read any posts with a barf warning or that has any msm as a source. I figure those posters are liberals pretending to be Freepers. We seem to have a lot of them the last several months, at least.
Keep your friends close, your enemies even closer.....................
It’s important to know what the latest software download to the NPCs is.
Barf is just short hand for - “I can’t even…”
Yes, I think many years ago, it meant more like, “I’m posting this as a FRiend who is sickened by it, not as a troll”
As someone who has never posted a “barf alert”, your analogy is false. We cannot be like leftists, who don’t know or care what we think. Understanding the evil we face is paramount. It used to be amusing b/c the radical kooks were few; now it is horrifying.
One of the purposes of this site has always been to debunk or mock the dominant leftist media narrative. Can’t do that if you don’t know what it is.
I always like those alerts. They usually summarize and thus tell us what the MSM is up to without us having to give them the clicks if we don’t want to.
Concur - I have no interest in what these liars and mountebanks write. I haven’t watched CNN, MSNBC, the three networks nor read the Washington Post nor NY Times for 20 years. And I haven’t missed a damned thing.
That was exactly it.
It was a way to tell the mods here that the poster is NOT a DU troll infiltrator, and to avoid an accidental ZOT.
I read “barf alert” articles. It’s good to know what the other side is up to.
And I couldn’t stand spending enough time on progressive sites to discover them.
I just like to know what progressives are thinking...on the next insane topic. Knowing in advance is very helpful.
<< Understanding the evil we face is paramount. >>
I didn’t say or suggest that posting MSM content should be verboten. I was merely commenting on tagging such articles with Barf Alerts.
Interesting, I’ve been having the same thoughts as the poster of this thread. It does seem like we’ve had a deluge of Leftist article threads by newer Freepers, almost as though they were leftists knocking a box of bees around just to see us swarm and buzz around while not actually being able to do anything to those kicking our box.
Now if they would post a certain article and then in the first comment section list two or three bullet points of concern regarding the article that we could all intelligently discuss...then that would be a different matter.
