This will be the final piece published at DBDailyUpdate.
Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating whether to continue on with this project, which began on a whim almost five years ago now, during the midst of the 2016 presidential campaign for America’s future. It started with short commentaries on Facebook and on a free blogsite, and then expanded in December 2016 to the creation of this website.
As interest in the Trump presidency grew, so did the traffic to this website, and along with that, the length and frequency of the commentary. The Trump revolution, and the consequent renaissance of America’s economy and prospects created the energy around all of this, and enhanced my own energy for doing it. The abrupt end to that presidency via corrupt means has in turn diminished both.
I could blame Google, which has systematically blocked traffic to the site – or more accurately, the count of that traffic, upon which all advertising revenue is based. That has certainly had a depressing effect. Watching Google’s counter take its “count” of traffic from central linking sites that a few months ago would number in the thousands per day down to literally zero certainly diminishes the creative juices.
But that’s not really all there is to this decision to shut this thing down, or even the main reason. The main reason is that it has become a depressing exercise each day to comment on all the societal destruction the communist Democrat party is wreaking on our country.
Simply put: This is no longer fun. When I started writing newspaper commentaries 35 years ago, I told myself and my wife that I would do them as long as it remained fun to do. I stopped doing those 10 years ago when they no longer were.
I applied the same principle to this endeavor: So long as it was fun to do and generated a little income, I could justify getting up at 5:00 every morning to spend a few hours doing it. But both factors are now gone, and maintaining it is a fairly expensive proposition.
I know many of you have made reading these each morning a part of your daily routine and have been extremely loyal to DBDailyUpdate, and I truly do appreciate you. To you, I owe an apology for this decision not to continue on, and I hope you understand the reasons.
This will leave something of a void in your morning, and to fill it I highly recommend writers like Kurt Schlichter and Glenn Greenwald and Byron Wright and the great Mollie Hemingway to you as alternatives. In fact, the Substack.com and the Federalist.com sites are filled with excellent, witty and insightful commentary and information every day of the week.
This may seem like a sudden, even rash decision to you, but be assured it is not. It’s something I’ve contemplated doing since January, and I just reached the final decision to do it over the weekend. I will continue to post short commentary on my social media accounts, and plan to also devote the found time I will suddenly have to other writing endeavors, including finishing a book I’ve been sporadically working on for the past two years.
So this is not a goodbye; it’s just a so long.
Thank you for taking the time to read my stuff, and for your loyalty.
God bless you all, and God bless what’s left of America.
That is all.
This is terrible. DB Update has been a part of my morning for a long time, just as Rush was part of my morning.
Two blows in one year...
Those are very good resources. ..if only more America loving people would be PCPs
...crickets...
David, good luck. Thanks for your efforts here. I remember pegging your early work as professional and predicted your success because of a lively style and distinctive voice. It must be a heckuva grind to write a daily column, and sometimes two with updates within updates. You were a champ at it. With your immersion in all this, I think you’ve enough in you to write a book or two that would do as much good as your columns without killing you. It’d be fun again. Look forward to seeing you produce something. I’ll be a fan of that, too.
Thank you very much for the great column every morning. Wishing you all of the best. God bless you and your family always.
Thus, proving correct everyone, including myself, who said this blogger's sole purpose in posting excerpts of so-called articles here is to drive traffic to their own site to make money off the clicks of unsuspecting FReepers.
Also proving that the blogger was knowingly doing so in direct violation of Jim Robinson's own wishes that Free Republic and its readers not be mined is such a fashion.
Good riddance.
I remember when Rush Limbaugh dropped his TV show right in the middle of the 1992 campaign.
I remember when Newt Gingrich departed being a Republican stalwart after being removed as Speaker of the House.
I remember when Brit Hume retired as anchor of Foxnews Special Report in 2008.
I remember when Jim Lehrer ended his tenure as a regular anchor of PBS Newshour in 2011.
Journalism will continue a decline with the departure of David Blackmon, who I thought would continue as a counterweight to the clownshow we now call mainstream media.
I will miss his wisdom and wit, indeed, and I wish he would find another venue to continue (Rush Limbaugh EIB show, for instance), or alone with his own podcast (similar to Scott Adams), if necessary.
Encouragement Judy, the victory belongs to those who show up.
Gonna miss your prose, David. Thanks for sharing.
Google is 😈
That really is all.
Good luck DB.
God speed Mr. Blackmon! You will be missed.
HAPPY TRAILS to you.....
I will definitely miss your threads. They were on my must read list and I couldn’t wait to read them. Thank You for providing insightful thought without all the garbage innuendo out there today. David Rocks!
I enjoyed your posts. Best of luck on your next endeavor.
Godspeed. Love your writing and appreciate your effort.
I have an idea. Instead of commenting on how badly we are getting Scr**ed by this tyrannical government, how about a commentary to all of us out their about what is getting done by others to reverse this situation. You know! focus on the positive. It seems that their is a lot out there. Everything is not going the way of the communist takeover.
Could be stimulating for those that feel lost and isolated.
Just a thought
READ LATER.
DB….
Thanks for the time spent and always illuminating thoughts. Happy trails to you in your future journeys!
It’s been a great site and a great read!
