There was a cartoon in The New Yorker long ago (back when it had funny cartoons) showing a maitre d' at a restaurant talking on the phone to someone making a reservation. "OK, table for 3 at 7 o'clock for Dr. Jennings. May I ask if you are a medical doctor or just a Ph.D.?"

Titles are meaningless. Instead, maybe we should call her, Mrs. Biden!
“Dr” Jill with her pathetic EdD lacks the scholarship to be called doctor. What research has she done other than that ridiculous dissertation? I started in an EdD program with a well known and respected university which was billed as educational leadership. I quit the program in disgust as it quickly became very apparent that it was a watered down school superintendent wanna be program totally devoid of serious research or doctoral level scholarship.

She holds a doctorate in education, which is not a degree my colleagues recognize. It is a nonsensical participation trophy given to people who want to be teachers and do not possess a degree.
Not that I stand on ceremony or titles but I believe my diploma reads doctor of medicine. I only use the title in the work environment but common usage is physicians are called doctor socially as well.
Physicians are also “doctors”. M.D. is a Doctor of Medicine.
Of course, it is different from Jill’s Ed.D, and her thesis is a joke.
Contractor who built our house was rather impressed that he was working for someone with an advanced academic degree, and registered all our paperwork with the town as “Dr.and Mrs.xxx” - a couple of years back as I was paying our real estate taxes in town hall, the young clerk who was working with me said “Oh, you’re a doctor” as she check the records - “It’s a PH.D,” I said.”I’m not a real doctor.” She chuckled, but I don’t think she knew what I was talking about......
You do know that the title doctor is from the Latin word doctare that means to teach. People who had the PhD were referred to as doctor as early as the 13th century. It wasn’t until the 19th century when physicians (and blood letters) thought it sounded classier to call themselves doctor when, in fact, they were healers. Then lawyers wanted a Juris Doctor degree. Probably so they could charge more money by the minute. Then teachers wanted to be called education doctors. Next politicians will want to be called doctor. LOL
Now we have people with the real doctorate who don’t want to be called doctor. Just don’t tell Dr. Kissinger.
You are paid to get higher degree and given higher pay with those degrees. PHD gives you 150K income and nothing else.
