When this is over I plan on going in only 3-4 times a week; I feel more productive at home and there are fewer distractions. People with young children feel otherwise I work with people raring to return.
My husband and I have been teleworking 100 pct since mid-March. I have no desire to return to the office. With email and internet meetings via MS Teams it is not necessary, at least for me. I work in IT, and spend 100 percentbof ky time on the phone or email. No reason for me to druve in to do the same thing at an office desk
Working from home has some definite advantages and disadvantages. The hours have gotten more flexible, I’ve gotten back the commute time, and I have more control over the temperature and distractions. It’s also harder to collaborate and I miss the interaction and social cues.
I would prefer a hybrid arrangement. But that’s not likely.
Not me either. Commutes, gas, office air, annoying coworkers, no thanks.
Those that were getting their meat and potatoes in the same place are missing the meat?
The office used to be somewhat fun when I first started. We could speak freely, had pinup girls in our cubes, drinks were common and dating coworkers wasn’t likely to result in a felony.
Now in the age of political correctness every word is scrutinized and anything can be recorded anytime. The “social” aspect of the office is long gone for this reason.
No thanks. I’d rather work on my computer from a bar anywhere on earth
I bet you wore a tie too.
There are governments (mainly CA, NY and other liberal bastions) talking about a special “office building tax” to de-incentivize working in office buildings and spaces, as well as subsidies for employers encouraging working at home, and direct tax credits for employees to purchase their home office equipment.
While working from home they should make tollhouse cookies to get back their toll.
I’m a system’s engineer, I track the entire system and I did that interacting with engineers. I had a boss once try to castigate me saying “Is all you do is go from office to office to talk to people?”
I replied “Yes, that is my job.” He gave a disgusted grunt and started moving on, the stopped and said “You are right”
I replied “Exactly, I find out from each engineer what’s happening to bring the system as whole together.”
Cannot do that from home. And in reality I mostly cannot work from home, I find too many distractions.
no getting up early, no traffic, no parking fees, no lunch to buy, to worry about your kids in daycare, etc etc....
essential workers have kept the fires burning and IMO should get a fat whopping tax holiday for at least 6 months.....
those who didn't have to work but still got paid....govt workers....maybe they should pay extra tax....jmo....
“The workplace is one of the primary places where many people have that social interaction.”
Back when I had co workers, before I was self employed, interacting was something I avoided like the plague.
I hope he did. Men look very handsome in suits and ties.
Total BS. Deduct every expense working from home.
Downtown, not so much.
Especially when they are smoking a cigarette at thier work desk.
I remember those days.
You are now competing with anyone with a computer anywhere the world for your job .to include AI.
AI? Arrogant Indians?
(I do know what AI really stands for)
Their are actually places very successful that have taps in their break-room.
Some allow smoking thru out the facility.
Kinda cool to get to these and remember the old days.
I have been in companies where face time was critical to career growth.
Now that I am older, I have come to realize those are the companies I do NOT wish to represent. They are nothing more than meat grinders. You might be this years Rock Star, but next year you will only be Above Average, and when your mentor leaves in two years you will only be Barely Functional.
True that. I went from the top rated professor at the university I was teaching at (under Australian management) to being fired for not meeting company goals once Arabs took over the branch and hired Indian management.
Funny thing is in Australian eyes, my performance was good enough to be re-hired at the San Francisco branch (adjunct during the COVID lockdown, full-time once GayFag Newscum allows full re-openings of schools and universities)
Not me. I love my aquarium and new fish coworkers.
