I got used to it.
I convinced my wife to do the same.
Doing that convinced me that I am an idiot.
About five years ago I went from being a desk jockey for 25 years to working from home and on the road.
Of the 100 or so people at my office, I really only count two as friends, the rest are mere acquaintances.
The few times a year I need to go there, maybe once every 2-3 months I dread. I hate the politics of it all.
They just took a survey of employees on their attitude about going back. Not sure the result but I assume for most they will prefer to work from home.
Certain people can’t. R&D, customer service etc. One of the customer service managers told me that he has no idea how he would train and supervise new employees remotely.
That makes sense. A friend has two kids who work in New York City. They both moved out of NYC and back in with mom and dad. Rent free earning NY wages.
One is saving up for med school, so for her it’s a pretty huge deal.
I guess it depends on where people are living, I know no one itching to return to the office in the DC area. Especially people who would have to commute via subway.
That’s nice. My brother had tropical fish, and my favorites were the Angelfish; but he didn’t have a lot of luck with those, for some reason.
You already are competing with computers anywhere in the world... being in an office doesn’t change that. Being in an office doesn’t insulate you.
Working from home makes promotion less of a beauty contest.
Being around a fully stocked kitchen only few feet away has its downside. I need a better relationship with the kitchen area.
I wish I could enjoy our ‘fully stocked kitchen’.
I haven’t had much appetite in many months. Nothing tastes right, to me.
(I”m starting to believe the people who say that all of this Covid Lockdown stuff is causing more - and more serious - problems than it is solving...)
I totally agree. Going to work in the ‘70s and ‘80s was better than being at home sometimes. The social aspect of it was good since PC hadn’t taken over yet. We had a blast. Worked really hard, and played just as hard.
