It is quite possible that he could pump himself up for a debate. Most of the stuff is rote, and that’s a positive for him. I agree with Laz. Biden is showing signs of early dementia...but most people in the country have no idea what it looks like.

We need to be very careful waltzing into the debate thinking Trump will bowl him over. Trump should go in thinking he is up against a 40 year old genius. If he kicks Biden’s ass...good. At least he won’t look sloppy if Joe has a good night.

I agree. The “debates” will consist of questions he’s answered hundreds of times. We can’t count on the debates as our silver bullet.

I just saw, for the 1st time, the Biden commercial where he takes Trump to task over CVOVID-19, claims he’s the one to protect Americans, etc. He seems to have good “vitality” and clarity of speech, but then, that’s pretty easy to display in a studio setting with as many takes and as much editing as needed. It might as well be high end CGI (and for all we know...)

Of note is that all the accusations were general. I suspect in a debate setting Trump could rip him (Biden) up with a few actual numbers. Also, while plenty of flags were in evidence (ironic, huh?), it was just Joe speaking with a little patriotic adornment and a silent black background. In fact, it felt very weird. Usually, you’d put the opposing candidate on a black background. And it made “isolated Joe” seem more isolated than ever, as if he exists in a lightless void.

The context can be found around the 1:00 mark. And, not to come to his defense, but what he is saying does make sense. He’s talking about assisting veterans in connecting them with jobs. He uses as examples, a retired quartermaster should be able to manage a women’s clothing department. Or a veteran who was responsible for tanks should be able to handle a position in a distribution center for FedEx. After watching a significant portion of the meeting, I get the sense that Biden could be more formidable in the debates than the excerpt would indicate.

The first Presidential debate is scheduled for September 29, from 9 to 10:30 PM, EST. That should put the theory to the test.

I agree that it is folly to allow Biden to set the expectations bar at zero. A good strategy might be to put clips from his past hyper-aggressive debate performances into the public eye, so the contrast with his current decline will be obvious, even if he does not drool and rave. Trump should also try to get Biden to lose his temper, while maintaining a calm, Presidential demeanor himself.

My late FIL was an alcoholic who retired to Pago Pago after his wife passed.

He was in the hospital with incompetency from several small strokes and we (and the military docs) were trying to get him back to the States. All my husband’s interactions were by phone.

Dad would say, “I went swimming today.” Talking to med staff, this meant he had had a bath. OTOH, he could be brutally honest and say, “They are making me speak with people I don’t want to talk to.” And he meant it.

The brain will make connections that are evident to the speaker, even when there is obvious deterioration, while the filters just seem to slip.

It all makes sense to Joe and he likely is incapable of hiding his remaining core truths, such as they might be.

Not sure how they hide that in a 90-minute debate.

I absolutely agree with this. They are the star chamber that is fingering all of us for the boxcars, so to speak, and they are sowing the wind as much as they possibly can against us. They should be made to reap the whirlwind they've sewn.
