2 million acres burned by wildfires in California, surpassing all-time record set in 2018

This season's wildfires in California, U.S. have burned more than 809 000 million ha (2 million acres) of land by September 7, 2020, surpassing the all-time record of 793 180 million ha (1.96 million acres) set in 2018. Cal Fire began tracking the numbers in 1987.

"We haven't even got into the October and November fire season and we've broken the all-time record," Cal Fire Capt. Richard Cordova told CNN on Sunday, September 6.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, more than 14 000 firefighters are currently battling two of the three largest fires in the history of the state. However, these are just 2 of dozens of currently active fires across the state.

On September 7, the U.S. Forest Service announced it was closing all 8 national forests in the southern half of the state. In addition, campgrounds at all national forests in the state were also closed. The decision will be re-evaluated each day, officials said.

"Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire," said Randy Moore, regional forester for the Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Region.

"The wildfire situation throughout California is dangerous and must be taken seriously."

And from what I understand, this could’ve been averted if the greenies weren’t always pacified.

Unfortunately we don’t do forest management, thinning out brush, etc. as had been done in decades past. So these fires are worse in part because there is more fuel to burn when a fire does break out.

The liberal view is that global warming is causing all these fires. The liberal view is that the fires are worse in recent years because of global warming. So there are very different opinions about what causes these fires.

I’m glad that at least for now, fire departments are still allowed to fully use fossil fueled vehicles and equipment to fight the fires.

You would think that this state would be burned up/down/gone already as much of it that has burned

it happened before.

THEY KNEW what to do to prevent it.

But fire brings fear, and fear porn is what
the DNC wants.

Exactly.....

They practice no forest management, no underbrush clearing...No firebreaks, no clearing around powerlines...

You either have to permit logging or permit the natural cycle of forest fires. If do not remove the fuel (lumber) fires are inevitable. The longer you try to suppress fires the bigger they become.

Of course, even though forest fires have been part of the natural cycle in California for countless millennia, the are Trump’s fault. Trump and those damned gasoline powered SUVs. Womyn and minorities are hardest hit.

That's a big part of it. Also, allowing the expansion of living residences to migrate towards the heavily forested areas didn't help. This forced a lot of the firefighter services to deal with saving lives and residences rather than go directly to containing the fires.

Accident waiting to happen when you ignore the obvious. Like Biden folks ignoring his dementia.

Look at the good side of it. The fires may knock back the Pine Bark Beatles that are killing the trees.

You would think that people would get a clue. Antifa/BLM are arsonists.
Now go figure.
Get rid of the terrorists and most of the fires will stop being started.
Two Oregon fires have been deemed ARSON.

We had to burn the forest to save the forest.

809 000 million ha (2 million acres)

Math error. 1 acre = .404686 hectares. Figure should be 809,000 ha, not 809 000 million ha.

Thank God we stopped the Timber Industry from harvesting all those densely populated trees into Piano’s and Houses, and don’t forget all the dead wood that we prevented from being harvested and sold for firewood for campers,.....

Fire is a natural part of the ecosystem.

Yes it is. But human hubris allows some to think that our species controls nature. There are serious penalties for that arrogance.
