...I find Taibbis dilemma fascinating, and I think I understand it. A mind is a difficult thing to change. When youve supported a party your entire life and youre an idealist who believes it stands for certain things that matter to you, and you see that was only a pretense and in fact a lie and the party stands for the opposite and yet you see friends and colleagues turning them selves into pretzels to defend it, its shocking on many levels. To assimilate that knowledge and not turn away and rationalize, as so many do is hard enough. Taibbi has accomplished that. But then theres the effort to understand its deeper meaning, and what it means about your own beliefs and the errors you yourself have made in perceiving what was going on.
I know about that. Ive been there. It took me only a year or two, but then again I never was previously so deeply into politics. And yet, it was difficult and tremendously disillusioning as well as an exercise in humility, and the social consequences have been hard as well...

Neo is an ex-Dem, discussing a leftist Dem, Taibbi, who is not liking some of the things he has seen from his side lo these past several weeks.
Taibbi began as a freelance reporter in the former Soviet Union, including a period in Uzbekistan, from where he was deported for criticizing President Islam Karimov.
Appears not to be a NPC. Hope yet remains. But agree - he would have the steep part in front of him.
Taibbi is a douchenozzle. Thinks he’s an intellectual of some sort. Imus used to have him on as a guest. Too smart by half type.

An honest liberal is a potential convert. I was never a full liberal, but I was a Henry Jackson Democrat at eighteen. The guy is figuring it out.
A lot of people are idiots.
