After cooking more at home during supposed "Lock-downs", I've begun catching up on cataloging all the family recipes from several generations, including newspaper and package clippings from the 30s.
Curious if others are all sensing a resurgence in home-cooking from scratch.
Can't find an older Quiche Lorraine recipe.
Maybe we can exchange recipes.
CHOPPED BEEF STROGANOFF
Ingredients:
1 pound Hamburger Meat.
1 Medium Onion, Diced.
1 Stalk Celery
1/2 cup Sliced Water Chestnuts
1/4 teaspoon Bouquet Garni for Beef
1 - Beef Bullion Cube, crushed
1 - 3oz can Button Mushrooms/liquid
1 - 10.5oz can Cream of Mushroom Soup, Undiluted (Campbell's)
1 cup Sour Cream
3 1/2 cups cooked rice (1 cup uncooked rice)
Saute chopped beef in mderately hot skillet until beef loses red color.
Add Vegetables and Water Chestnuts and continue to cook until vegetables are limp.
Stir in seasonings, mushrooms and soup.
Simmer until all ingredients are heated and blended.
Just before serving, stir in sour cream and heat, but do not boil.
Serve over hot rice.
Serves 4-6.
Note: 1/4 t dried dill may be substituted for Bouquet Garni (Spice Islands).
Yes it is- I’ve had to learn how to cook, and here’s what i’ve learned so far, which I’m happy to share
Step 1: Boil Water
Step 2: Drop Bullion cube into water
Step 3: Let cool somewhat
Step 4: Enjoy
OPtional Step: Butter a slice of bread, and eat alongside the bullion soup
Other than that- I’m lost-
Is Home-Cooking on the rise?
A lot of folks eat out a lot - or did. Now they either prepare their own meals, wait in drive through lines for marginal food, or starve to death.
WHOA WHOA WHOA - hold your horses- too many steps-
[[1 - Beef Bullion Cube, crushed]]
OK- that i can deal with

Started a batch of 1847 Oregon Trail Sourdough on 4-14. So far I’ve made English Muffins, waffles, pancakes and given a couple of starts away.
Does anyone need a start?
If you dropped that bullion cube in your beer you could save yourself a lot of trouble.
The grandkids have been having a feast at the house.
Surprisingly the favorite old recipe has been Fried Cabbage and Noodles w/kielbasa
I have never failed to find a recipe I was looking for on YouTube. Always some Julia Child wannabe putting on a show will have produced whatever it is you are looking for.
On the technology side, I like the Paprika app on my iPad for storing favorite recipes. Its good at sucking in recipes from all the major recipe sites.
Food Network is my first go-to site for most things, have gotten a lot of good recipes from there.
I made some from-scratch whole wheat hamburger buns yesterday. Heres the recipe I used for those; I was pretty pleased with the results:

Yeah, that was us, for sure. Fortunately Im also a decent home cook. I just do a whole lot more of it.
I’m sure heartburn and Rolaids sales are on the rise.
For anyone interested there is a Monthly Cooking thread with yummy recipes on it, run by Jamestown1630, here is a link to April’s threadhttp://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3831535/posts
There’s a great guy on YouTube, Daddy Jack. His channel is called Cooking With the Blues. He just did a Quiche Lorraine recently.
I’ve been on the Kamado Grill a lot..

Throw it all into yer crock pot for 10-12 hours, ladling out the grease when it rises to the top.

Best ever Banana (nut) bread.
1 cp Sugar (Splenda for a low cal treat)
1 cp Flour
1 tsp Bkg soda
1/2 tsp Salt
3 Lg super ripe bananas
2 eggs
1/2 cp butter flavored crisco
OPTIONAL: 1 cp total - nuts, raisins, dried cranberries/cherries
1) Mix dry stuff: Sugar, flour, soda, salt.
2) Mix wet stuff: Melt shortening in microwave (about 30seconds). Combine shortening, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well with a fork.
3) Combine 1 & 2 and mix well. **Youll think its too dry but its not.
4) Mash up bananas, stir well with fork and pour into above mix and stir up well.
5) Add 1cup chopped walnuts. Or equivalent of white raisins and dried cranberries. **You can get creative here.
6) Spray non-stick (Pam) a bread pan and pour in mix.
7) Bake at 350deg for exactly 1hour.
8) Let cool (about 45min). Spread cream cheese icing on top for a few hundred extra calories.
**Your house will smell delicious**
I forgot:
1 tsp vanilla or 50:50 vanilla/almond extract
I just saw a cabbage and egg recipe prepared similar to Spanish tortilla...
