I'll start with a simple classic the kids and from our youth, we always enjoyed, Beef Stroganoff.

CHOPPED BEEF STROGANOFF

Ingredients:

1 pound Hamburger Meat.

1 Medium Onion, Diced.

1 Stalk Celery

1/2 cup Sliced Water Chestnuts

1/4 teaspoon Bouquet Garni for Beef

1 - Beef Bullion Cube, crushed

1 - 3oz can Button Mushrooms/liquid

1 - 10.5oz can Cream of Mushroom Soup, Undiluted (Campbell's)

1 cup Sour Cream

3 1/2 cups cooked rice (1 cup uncooked rice)

Saute chopped beef in mderately hot skillet until beef loses red color.

Add Vegetables and Water Chestnuts and continue to cook until vegetables are limp.

Stir in seasonings, mushrooms and soup.

Simmer until all ingredients are heated and blended.

Just before serving, stir in sour cream and heat, but do not boil.

Serve over hot rice.

Serves 4-6.

Note: 1/4 t dried dill may be substituted for Bouquet Garni (Spice Islands).

Yes it is- I’ve had to learn how to cook, and here’s what i’ve learned so far, which I’m happy to share

Step 1: Boil Water

Step 2: Drop Bullion cube into water

Step 3: Let cool somewhat

Step 4: Enjoy

OPtional Step: Butter a slice of bread, and eat alongside the bullion soup

Other than that- I’m lost-

Is Home-Cooking on the rise?

Does the pope wear a funny hat?

A lot of folks eat out a lot - or did. Now they either prepare their own meals, wait in drive through lines for marginal food, or starve to death.

Started a batch of 1847 Oregon Trail Sourdough on 4-14. So far I’ve made English Muffins, waffles, pancakes and given a couple of starts away.
Does anyone need a start?

Here's my *sauce for steak, salmon, or pork. All quantities are "to taste."

mayonnaise (about one or two tablespoons per person)

Tajin Mexican seasoning

McCormick's Smokehouse Maple seasoning

Lemon-pepper seasoning

Wright's Liquid Smoke

Use milk, cream, or water to thin to desired consistency.

*Notice to suspicious people: I do not own stock in any of the companies mentioned in this recipe.

On the technology side, I like the Paprika app on my iPad for storing favorite recipes. It’s good at sucking in recipes from all the major recipe sites.

Food Network is my first go-to site for most things, have gotten a lot of good recipes from there.

I made some from-scratch whole wheat hamburger buns yesterday. Here’s the recipe I used for those; I was pretty pleased with the results:

I’ve been on the Kamado Grill a lot..

Pulled Pork - 4-6lb port shoulder, bone in our bone out is fine, keep temperature at 225-250, cook until internal temperature of meat rises to 195 degrees. Thermometer required...

Once done, wrap in aluminum foil and be allowed to cool for 45 to 60 minutes...

Shred appropriately....

Crock pot pasta sauce.

5 cans Italian style stewed tomatoes
2 cans tomato paste
2 tablespoons crushed garlic seared in olive oil
3 pounds browned Italian sausage
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Throw it all into yer crock pot for 10-12 hours, ladling out the grease when it rises to the top.
When done, scoop into small plastic containers and freeze it.
Thaw when needed.

Best ever Banana (nut) bread.
1 cp Sugar (Splenda for a low cal treat)
1 cp Flour
1 tsp Bkg soda
1/2 tsp Salt
3 Lg super ripe bananas
2 eggs
1/2 cp butter flavored crisco
OPTIONAL: 1 cp total - nuts, raisins, dried cranberries/cherries

1) Mix dry stuff: Sugar, flour, soda, salt.
2) Mix wet stuff: Melt shortening in microwave (about 30seconds). Combine shortening, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well with a fork.
3) Combine 1 & 2 and mix well. **You’ll think it’s too dry but its not.
4) Mash up bananas, stir well with fork and pour into above mix and stir up well.
5) Add 1cup chopped walnuts. Or equivalent of white raisins and dried cranberries. **You can get creative here.
6) Spray non-stick (Pam) a bread pan and pour in mix.
7) Bake at 350deg for exactly 1hour.
8) Let cool (about 45min). Spread cream cheese icing on top for a few hundred extra calories.

**Your house will smell delicious**

“old fashioned quiche lorainne” recipe

This is from America Cooks: General Federation of Women’s clubs, copyright 1967, page 214

Quiche Lorraine serves 6 to 8

Pastry for one-crust pie (p. 548)
6 slices bacon
6 thin slices (about 2 x 3 inches) Swiss cheese
4 eggs
2 cups light cream
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground pepper, few grains of cayenne

1. Line a 9-inch pie pan with Pastry for one-crust pie
2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
3. In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Drain well; crumble. Sprinkle in pie shell. Arrange cheese over bacon.
4. In mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients. Beat briskly with whisk or rotary beater for 1 minute. Pour into pie shell
5. Bake on lowest rack in oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees. Cook for additional 30 minutes, or until knife gently inserted into center comes out clean. Pie will be slightly puffed and golden brown.
6. Cut into wedges. Serve hot or cold.

Yes, all the soup and frozen meals are usually gone. Crowd favorite Campbell’s Tomato Bisque is always gone now.

Nothing like home cooking. What happens when the stores never replenish?

TP has never caught up and Sears catalogs no longer exists. Corn cobs and a bucket?

Gardens are not available for many. So do not mention how you grow your own. If you do, that is very good!

Here’s my go-to recipe:

In a wok or skillet:

Oil (1/4-1/2c EVOO or canola)
Garlic (I buy it by the jar &
spoon out as needed from
fridge)
Ginger (FRESH skinned & chopped)
Green onion (1 or 2, chopped)
Dried Chile pepper (1 or 2)

Now, toss in small chunks of meat or fish, and whatever vegetables you like. Snow peas, broccoli, carrots, greens, etc.
Quickly stir fry & serve over rice or pasta.
The fresh ginger is what makes it delish.
