Do you personally know anyone who has died of COVID? Seeking real first hand info. Not my boss' cousin or wife's friend's sister anecdotal info.
I live near there. Been out and around because I am considered essential. Haven’t caught it. Same with my wife.
Colleen Smith @Juniper949, “simulationista” at Elmhurst Hospital, knows of many medical mannequins who have tested positive for Corona.
==> Probability that a specific person has died ~= 84 out of a million
Call this probability "p". Assume that deaths are randomly distributed in the population
Assume the average person has 100 acquaintances who are randomly distributed in the population
The probability of knowing zero people who have died is (1 - p)^100
Give the inputs, this comes out to 99.2%
So the probability of knowing at least one person who died is currently only 0.8%. So only about 1 out of every 120 people will know someone who has died.
A bunch of assumptions here, but it is clear that so far it is not weird if the average person in the country doesn't know someone who has died from coronavirus.
Of course, if you live in a place where there have been more deaths or work in health care, etc., these assumptions might not realistically reflect your network of acquaintances and the chance of knowing a person who has died could be much higher.
I don’t even personally know anybody that has had it.
Nope.
I personally do not know anyone who has it, died from it, or got over it, but a friend’s 33-year-old son (in another state) has it and is recovering.
1 - My wife's (very healthy) 90 year old Uncle died from the virus
2 - A fellow church member went to NYC to visit daughter in early March, contracted the virus, spent 2 weeks in hospital, is recovering
3 - Now working from home, but company email says someone (un named) in my building tested positive
Nein,
No..
A friend in NJ was in Arizona and developed corona virus. He was a former medical doctor who developed Leukemia. He said the virus wasnt bad and his case was light and he recovered from it quickly.
Nope none...?asked the same question 2 weeks ago and got slammed for even thinking such a thing.. everyone chimes in my neighbors lawn guy had a customer whos niece had a friend whos roommate knew someone that died..
“,,Second, in NYC of a Never Trumper..”
They don’t count.
No, from Saratoga County NY
No
“Male, early 50s, very fit, had run dozens of marathons, no underlying health problems, seemed to be recovering and then had a relapse and was dead the same day he was admitted to the ER.”
I don’t doubt you, but flubros are adamant that no one can die of COVID unless they have underlying conditions.
I said this in another thread somewhere here. I’ve known two people whe died of AIDS, but zero people who died of coronavirus.
No
An old college buddy had it but didnt die from it. He stayed home until he got too sick to stay there. His wife took him to an urgent care where they immediately sent him to the hospital. Once at the hospital he was sent to ICU and was there for about 8-10 days, hanging on for dear life, and fighting every step of the way. He begged the doctor not to go on a ventilator. This was before they knew how bad the death rates were for patients on ventilators. He struggled and survived. Then he was transferred to a regular room for 3-4 days, then released. This was during March. Had to stay quarantined for another 10 days once home.
I know and talk to two pharmacistettes at our local grocery store/pharmacy just about everyday. They have not heard of any cases and don’t wear masks.
Non in my personal circle. Pray it stays that way.
Friend’s dad died early on and acquaintance (nurse) from church hospitalized today with it.
