Former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke has written an essay he probably thought would be helpful to those of us who want President Trump to be re-elected. If this was his goal he failed.
I offer this rebuttal to his dire warning.
With nearly every sporting event canceled during the COVID19 outbreak, I went back to one of my favorite pastimes: reading. One of the books I read was: Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House.
Former Chairwoman of the Democrat National Committee Donna Brazile candidly gives readers a close-up view of how Hilary Clinton and her campaign team were active participants in their demise. This book should serve as a blueprint to the re-elect Donald Trump 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee. Better to learn from others mistakes than making the same ones. It should be mandatory reading for every top-level campaign staffer down to the 50 state party chairs.
"What happened to Clinton was not an anomaly, it infects every campaign, and if it is not managed effectively, it can turn what should be certain victory into a crushing defeat. Arrogance and complacency were fatal here. Braziles work serves as a reminder that no election win is guaranteed.
RESPONSE:
Yes, but Trump is running against an empty suit who does not inspire anyone but Democrat party loyalists who are hoping (not praying of course) that the Dover Dimwit can mitigate down ballot damage. Trump will have millions and millions of voters willing to crawl through broken glass to support him (97% Republican support). This is as certain as we humans can get about something.
One of the first lessons learned was to avoid the curse of inevitability. Everybody in the Clinton campaign had an attitude that she was destined to be president of the United States.
RESPONSE:
Since President Trump has survived non- stop attacks on himself, his family and his supporters for four years and coming from all sides; and STILL leads in the latest surveys it becomes difficult to make a case against our/Trumps inevitable land slid victory.
The problem is that someone forgot to notify black voters in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, states Clinton and her staff ignored. I currently sense this attitude from some Trump supporters who believe it is impossible Joe Biden can win in November.
RESPONSE:
These two sentences mix as perfectly as oil and water. Is Sheriff Clarke trying to say since Clinton forgot to campaign to Black voters, Trump has done the same? Where has he been for the last three years?
Sheriff, you are clearly not aware that multiple survey numbers show Trump already winning a sufficient number of Black votes to crush the Dover Dimwit. Unfortunately, for the sake of producing a click bait piece, you chose to ignore many many factors that make for a huge chasm between the genuine chance Hillary Clinton had of winning and the pitiful ass kicking the Dover Dim Wit is in for.
RESPONSE:
They claim Biden is too old and losing it mentally. They say if Trump runs on the economy, hes a shoo-in. I guess they werent expecting that COVID19 would wipe out three years of economic gains in a week.
RESPONSE:
Mr Clarke, The Dover Dim Wit IS too old and is losing his ability to think very rapidly. Do you think for a minute that Donald Trump would not eat him alive with a non-stop barrage of Bidens stupidest remarks? Do you think that Trump is Bush and would take it easy on old Joe because it is the gentlemanly thing to do? Trump is a man who stared down the Mafia in the mean streets of New York City; do you think he will hold back even slightly with his re-election on the table?
Clearly you think that the economic progress Americans have seen in three years is some kind of Republican trick and people really arent doing better even thou they THINK they are. Dont ever bet against America Mr. Clarke.
Also, the chatter of Trump getting 20 to 30% of the black vote in 2020 based on a survey is complacency. The black vote for Trump has to be cultivated at ground level, not from a survey-taker. Braziles book also reminds us that because people say they support the job you are doing does not automatically transfer into them voting for you.
RESPONSE:
Chatter Mr. Clarke? ..a [single] survey? You embarrass yourself here. There have been a multitude of surveys showing at least a 16% Black vote for Trump and as much as 34% for him. Get some facts; do some research before you write.
The Black vote for Trump is large enough to support a claim that their 2020 voting patterns will produce a nightmare for Democrats from top to bottom of their ticket.
Considering that the bar for winning the election is as low as pulling just 14% of the Black vote and it has been a very long time since a survey has shown Black support even that low, it is safe to say the Black vote is going to be there for Trump and America.
If you had bothered to do some research you would realize how foolish you look. In our lifetime when were large groups of Blacks ever coming together to support a Republican?
I guess as a Black man you claim expertise here and wish to assert that the very sharp drop in Black unemployment is just a mirage that Black voters will shake off and disregard as they line up to vote Democrat again.
Well lets see: Blacks changing their voting patterns in Michigan, Wisconsin (your home state), Pennsylvania and North Carolina gave the presidency to Trump on just his promises. But you believe that now that Trump has actually produced for Black Americans as no president ever has, they will say, Okay time to get back on the Democrat Plantation. I dont.
The lack of scholarship you have applied to this essay shines through. Tell me the last time a Democrat has won a contested special election; tell me how you explain the consistent 18 to 25% of attendees at Trump rallies being Democrats; explain how the consistent 8 to 12% of attendees that did not even vote in 2016 happen to arrive at his arenas. Many of these people are Black Mr. Clarke.
The Clinton camp had that arrogant attitude too.
RESPONSE:
Arrogant too? It aint bragging if you can do it, Trump can do it and does do it; or havent you noticed? Falling back on Democrat talking points is a very unbecoming quality.
They thought that there was no way a businessman from Queens with no political experience could beat Hilary, who former President Obama called the smartest and most qualified candidate who had ever run for president. Really?
RESPONSE:
Thank you for making my case.
Another issue that plagued the Clinton camp was ignoring what Brazile called the storm clouds on the horizon. People at the top-level of a campaign rarely go below deck to get a different perspective. People below deck are oftentimes blown off as not important enough because they dont have a fancy title or a spacious office with a big desk and great view. They couldnt possibly know anything.
"However, below deck are the state party chairmen and chairwomen, the volunteers, and the base voters. Their perspective can inform the top that there is an iceberg up ahead and that the ship is headed right for it unless they correct course.
RESPONSE:
I think having TWO MILLION volunteers signed up by the start of March with no actual Democrat opponent kind of breaks up that iceberg theory you are clinging to, dont you Mr. Clarke?
Even though Brazile was high up on the food chain, she was pushed aside by millennial snotty-nosed staffers who had no real campaign experiences.
Brazile, with her 40 years of campaign experience at the presidential level, had a gut feeling that the operation was not hitting on all cylinders.
RESPONSE:
I dont know how to break this to you to but NBC has just released a survey result showing Biden beating Trump 53/42. Maybe you should put some ice on that, Mr Clarke because the Democrats are getting snookered by fake polls again. And these are polls from their so-called allies.
There was a lack of urgency and enthusiasm.
RESPONSE:
Mr. Clarke, anybody who thinks there is no urgency in Donald J. Trumps personality has not been watching. He is a man who walked around huge multi-floor job sites and spoke to construction workers regularly; so, you are wrong again. No enthusiasm sir? Have you ever never watched a Trump rally which by the way he has done over ninety of since 2015?
She heard complaints from volunteers, from people who didnt have a fancy enough title and from state party people who told her that the top of the campaign was disconnected from the rest of them. Not much of the nearly billion dollars that Clinton raised was filtering down. Even yard signs, brochures, and local office spaces were hard to come by. The top brass arrogantly told her that yard signs do not win campaigns.
"Brazile reminded them that they show the enthusiasm and energy among the base voters and that it could be contagious. She reminded them that in the black community, brochures and radio ads are how they get engaged and enthused. She said it was essential to get out and meet new people to register. However, Hilary stuck to appearing at fundraisers with wealthy donors because she believed she was destined.
RESPONSE:
And, these things happened in a Clinton campaign! Do you think for a minute that because Trump now has MORE THAN THREE TIMES THE NUMBER of volunteers he WON with last time, and this is still eight months out, he is in any danger of this happening to his campaign? If you do Mr. Clarke you have no basis for saying so.
The smart people thought they could win the election solely on data and analytics. A ground game was old school, and no longer relevant Brazile was told. I also hear about data and analytics from the Trump campaign.
RESPONSE:
Wow, now you are really talking about things you havent the slightest idea about. Trump did his final three campaign rallies when Hillary Clinton was home drinking champagne. Why? Because his pollsters the McLaughlin brothers told him he was going to win if he just pushed a little harder so please think before you speak. His ground game you know the one we heard Trump didnt have, crushed Clinton in the important states.
Let me remind them that data and analytics do not win elections; they are a tool, a force multiplier. The other disease that plagued Clintons campaign was an over-reliance on consultants, who are nothing more than a snake-oil salesman.
"Consultants do little more than bleed campaigns of cash while adding little in return. Most do not know how elections are run, most have never worked in a campaign or have been a candidate, but the belief is that if you dont have consultants on staff, youre not a viable campaign.
RESPONSE:
Donald Trump run and won the presidency of the United States with a faction of the staff Clinton had so you are wrong again, Mr Clarke. Trumps first primary run in New Hampshire was run by a team of three people. He got more votes than the next to finishers combined.
In fact, the opposite is true. The money not spent on consultants can be better spent at the state Party local level where, unlike consultants, the people know how to get out the vote. In the end, everything done in a campaign has to contribute to increasing voter turnout. If it doesnt, get rid of it.
RESPONSE:
Im sure Brad Parscale will be happy to hear your advice, sir.
Finally, Brazile talked about not forgetting the people who got you there in the first place. Trumps campaign cannot dismiss most of the people who in 2016 helped him win.
RESPONSE:
This is startlingly nonsensical! A recent CNN (no less!) survey showed the enthusiasm to vote among those intending to vote for Trump is FIFTEEN points higher than it is among those intending to vote for either Biden or Sanders Ninety Seven percent of Republicans support President Trump; you must be one of the three percent who feel forgotten.
Clinton got rid of most of Obamas campaign staff. Yeah, the guy who came out of nowhere and beat the smartest woman ever to run for president. So, during the unpredictable COVID-19 flu outbreak, we should also stay focused on the 2020 election.
RESPONSE:
Oh how inspirational! Mr. Clarke, you might think America is going to vote for a bumbling old fool who doesnt know what state he is in over a calm competent leader in this year of crisis; but I strongly disagree.
Link Please.
i believe the sheriff to be an ardent trump supporter and he warns of complacency and arrogance that denied clinton of her prize.
we should not fight amongst ourselves, but continue to try and bolster our victory...
Sheriff Clark is right, this clown is just a cheerleader trying to convince everybody that its impossible to lose. Thats the most dangerous attitude we can have
Sheriff Clark is right.
Bingo! I read Sheriff Clarkes article as well, the point that he was trying to get across was not to get complacent.
Clarke is fine.
I know Clark’s comments will not discourage people from voting. I am not sure I can say the same about your comments.
Don’t under-estimate The Sheriff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=indK2qHfpKk
#BecauseHe'sBlackGetIt?
I see nothing wrong with Sheriff Clark reminding people not to be complacent. Nor do I see how you see this a a big fail either.
Nothing is a given at all.
Minorities and immigrants vote more than two to one Dem. Non-Hispanic whites, the Rep power base, are declining each year as a percentage of the population. In 1970 they were 89% of the population; today they are 63%. By around 2043, they will be 50% of the population. Immigrants and their US born children drive 80% of our population growth. 87% of 1.1 million permanent immigrants who enter annually are minorities as defined by the USG. 2019 marks the first time that half of the children 18 and under are minorities. Each cohort that turns 18 annually will be more minority and more Dem.
The 2020 race will be very close and the Dems will likely win again more popular votes than the Reps. We must win key states again like MI, WI, and PA to breech the blue wall. The destruction of the Trump economy will not help his reelection. The historically low unemployment rates for minorities will be a distant memory. What will the economy look like in September and October?
Kabar, I know you’ve been around almost as long as I, so I won’t say what I first thought about your post, but damn, don’t keep drinking that libtard SC kool-aide - it’s much worse than what I may or may not be smoking.
In a way, you’re agreeing with Clarke - difference is you are a defeatist and just because dems vote multiple times in multiple states; recruit from graveyards and can beat Mittins and McCain - doesn’t mean Biden has a chance against Trump despite your polls and demographics. Dems are so divided it’s likely Bernie Bros will sit this out or go 3rd party for full-on Socialism. Conventional wisdom and past experiences are out the window FRiend and the only thing that will stop Trump are opinions like yours and folks who express them.
Even sadder for folks to get so het up about Clarke’s essay - he’s a Trump supporter.
I have had one on one sessions with Eric Cantor, George Allen, Ed Gillespie and countless other clueless Reps who don't understand how immigration has changed our electoral politics. The data are there. You can ignore it and watch AZ, NC, GA, CO, NV, and others go down the same path. When Texas goes, it is all over. Why do you think the Dems want increased immigration? We have brought in over 35 million legal permanent immigrants since 1990, the equivalent of the current population of Canada.
Immigration's Impact on Republican Political Prospects, 1980 to 2012
As a share of the U.S. population, the ACS (used in the remainder of this report) shows that immigrants (legal and illegal) comprised 13.7 percent or nearly one out of seven U.S. residents in 2017, the highest percentage in 107 years. As recently as 1980, just one out of 16 residents was foreign-born.
The foreign born population will reach 14.82 percent in 2027, the highest ever recorded in our nation's history. We are being colonized by the third world.
Conventional wisdom and past experiences are out the window FRiend and the only thing that will stop Trump are opinions like yours and folks who express them.
I supported Trump from the day he came down the escalator. I have donated my time and money to support him. I will do my damnedest to get him reelected. He may be the last Rep President we will ever see in generations. And Trump is not your conventional Rep. You can keep your head up your ass and ignore reality. The 2020 election will be very close. A Trump victory will require a maximum effort from all of us.
The other side has dragged Trump thru the Mueller investigation and impeachment. There was an attempted coup by Deep State that spied on the Trump campaign and transition teams and nine months of his Presidency. The MSM has openly declared their opposition to Trump. The upcoming campaign will be the dirtiest in our lifetime. Expect voter fraud and October surprises. It is going to be vicious.
