An FBI Agent who ran a warrantless spying program recently revealed that the FBI spent millions on a program that he believes was used for political purposes.

The FBI agent who ran the bureau’s warrantless spying program said Wednesday he warned ex-Director James Comey and his deputy, Andrew McCabe that the program was a useless waste of taxpayer money that needlessly infringed Americans’ civil liberties but his bosses refused to take action.
Retired Special Agent Bassem Youssef ran the FBI’s Communications Analysis Unit from late 2004 until his retirement in late 2014. He told Just the News he fears the deeply flawed program, which was started in response to the Sept. 11 attacks, was allowed to keep going to give Americans a false sense of security in the war on terror and possibly to enable inappropriate spying, such as that which targeted President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
“I have no doubt, or very little doubt, that it was used for political spying or political espionage,” Youssef said during a lengthy interview for the John Solomon Reports podcast.
Youssef confirmed that the FBI performed an audit of the highly classified program (also known as the NSA program because it searched call records captured by the National Security Agency) after Edward.
It was also reported from the Freedom Act’s Telephone Call Records Program report released by the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, that the number of records collected by the government was in the millions and former DNI Dan Coates was well aware of this:

Not only was work stopped but Binney’s computers and programs were destroyed. Binney and staff were not so subtly encouraged to retire. Operation Trailblazer was pushed forward, even though greatly more inefficient and without personal safeguards, requiring huge amounts of Black Budget monies. Barr is amont the DSers simply running out the statute of limitations without doing anything. Unfortunately Trump appears to be safely neutered as far as they are concerned. If he wins reelection there is hope he can slow down their operation, but many of their (e.g., Hillary’s) crimes will just have fallen off potential realistic prosecution.

Binney, almost immediately after Sept 11 2001, decided to run available data through his ThinThread system to see if could have predicted the events...and in an amazingly short amount of time uncovered the communication meta data traffic links that described the organization and that flagged 9-11-2001 as an imminent event.
What's hard to wrap ones head around ThinThread is that traffic analysis doesn't deal with the “what” directly, rather it tracks traffic links between players, direct and cascading contacts, frequency while linking those to ongoing real events. That/those patterns would have been sufficient for FISA court applications to delve into content of messages before revealing encrypted individual identities. Binney’s safeguard...Of course we've now learned that the FISA court judges merely rubber stamp Intel requests...and that the presumed integrity of Federal LEOs and intelligent agencies has no basis whatsoever. The supposed ultimate guardians of our republic
taken upon themselves to govern, allowing the charade of free elections to proceed.
