NASA wants to jump-start development of landers to take humans to the Moon After more than a year of talk about returning humans to the Moon, NASA is asking the aerospace community to come up with designs for landers that can transport astronauts to the lunar surface. NASAs goal is to test out these vehicles on the Moon as early as 2024 and then use them to take people to the lunar surface by 2028
What a silly thing to do
Ping.

trying to get to the moon to help the chinese harvest their crops.
China effect
It is dangerous enough to go to the moon. A manned trip to Mars is a suicide mission.
We’ve been there and there’s nothing of value to warrant the cost of the trip. Work on Mars, ‘cause we haven’t been there. Not likely anything there to warrant the cost of that trip either, but humans are explorers.
(Those of us of a "certain age" get that. :-)))
Been there, done that, got the moon rocks.
but china is trying to steal our cheese

China plans to have men on the moon by 2032 ...
Yes there is: the high ground. The moon has a much shallower gravity well. This should not be abandoned. See R.A. Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress for a fuller discussion of the advantages.
2028? SLS/Orion is so far behind schedule and waaaaay over budget.
Maybe NASA is depending on Space X/Dragon.....what a mission sucess record.
If you're a follower of Richard Hoagland's Enterprise Mission then you would assume it has something to do with yet another Egyptian occult ceremony that must be performed on the moon.

I suspect that NASA will be a speed bump to moon colonization at some point. They are such a bureaucratic mess they can’t do anything near on schedule or budget, but their employees keep drawing a paycheck!
NASA needs to decide, do we want to be relevant to space travel and establishing a base on the moon and going to Mars or be a works program for our employees?
