Could El Chapo’s seized drug money be used to build the border wall?

That’s one of the questions many are asking on Tuesday following news of the former drug kingpin being found guilty on all counts.

Mexico’s most notorious drug kingpin, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury found him guilty on all 10 counts following a three month trial.

According to Breitbart, the United States has seized $14 billion from the former drug lord, which gave Sen. Ted Cruz a brilliant idea.

The Texas Republican introduced the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order (EL CHAPO) Act in April 2017, which calls for the use of the $14 billion seized from the cartel drug lord to be used to pay for the wall.

“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,” Cruz said in a statement.

The Obama administration spent its years allowing powerful people and organizations to buy their way out of criminal charges by collecting fines instead. The proceeds from those fines were then used to support liberal groups. Including all of the democrat vote fraud organizations.

So I would say Trump would be well within his rights to actually spend that money on protecting America. And what makes it even better is that the money would be used to curtail the activities of the very type of criminal organizations that the money was taken from. Win Win

The secret of the Obama Administration was that the failure to adopt a budget agreement coupled with sequestration generated about $1 billion per year that was not appropriated to a specific program. When Ted Cruz introduced this in 2017, he said, "The U.S. Government is currently seeking the criminal forfeiture of more than $14 billion in drug proceeds and illicit profits from El Chapo...". That's a pie-in-the-sky number based on estimates of how much revenue the cartel has taken in over its existence, and the truth is that the government has no idea of how much money there is now or where it is.
