Other critics say constitutional carry would put law enforcement at risk, but the bill's author says that shouldn't be put above a citizen's right. The bill was amended in the House, cleaning up some language, and amending the bill into a Constitutional Carry bill. This allows a vote in the Senate on the Constitutional Carry bill. The Oklahoma Senate has 38 Republicans and 10 Democrats. If the amended bill comes up for a vote, it is likely the amended bill will pass the Senate. If it does, and Governor Mary Fallin signs the bill, Oklahoma will become the next state to pass Constitutional Carry.
"I do not support the rights of law enforcement to feel not threatened or safe to the detriment of my own constitutional rights," said Rep. Jeff Coody, the bill's author.
After amended, the bill then passed the House 59-28 . Now the amended bill moves back to the Senate for approval.
What do gun enthusiasts think?
Mike, a member of the Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association, says he sat in on the House debate at the Capitol.
"It will allow people in Oklahoma to have a gun to protect themselves without putting themselves in jeopardy and without going through the entire permit process and paying close to $300," Mike said.
I see everything twice!!
Coming next to New York State (silence), lol as Little boy andy cumo enacts MORE gun restrictions.
Need that in Texas, too.
They should have called it Hogg’s law.
This passed the state Senate late last night 33 to 9! Now it goes for the Governor.
This became law in West Virginia a couple year’s ago (over the veto of the democrat governor). The gun grabbers screamed all their normal lines, “Inexperience gun owners would be shooting themselves and each other in the streets. It would be a bloodbath. etc.) In the two years since in passed, there hasn’t been one single case of a murder or accidental shooting from a concealed carrier.
Hope Mary Fallin signs it today !
OK is OK..!!
We should have had it in Texas last year.
A lot of people don’t realize that Texas is hardly at the forefront on gun rights, and to this day lags behind the rest of the country in carry rights. All carry of handguns outside one’s own property was illegal from 1873 until permitted concealed carry was enacted in 1995. Open carry was illegal until 2016, when permitted open carry was enacted.
It is beyond me why, in 2016, the legislature could not at least just repeal the racially-motivated 1873 carry law, join the majority of States, and allow open carry without a permit. Then it would at least have just caught up to the rest of the country.
We should be at the forefront of gun rights in Texas, but instead we get crumbs: open carry with a permit, shorter LTC classes, the motorist protection act. I think Republican state reps need to start seeing pro-gun primary challenges.
And Hornady decides they don’t need New York’s business if they might need some ammo. At least not directly.
I’d like to see that vote taken in the New jersey legislature, if only to learn how many (or how few) of our elected representatives have any respect for the Constitution.
Thanks for informative post.
