Need that in Texas, too.
They should have called it Hogg’s law.
We should have had it in Texas last year.
A lot of people don’t realize that Texas is hardly at the forefront on gun rights, and to this day lags behind the rest of the country in carry rights. All carry of handguns outside one’s own property was illegal from 1873 until permitted concealed carry was enacted in 1995. Open carry was illegal until 2016, when permitted open carry was enacted.
It is beyond me why, in 2016, the legislature could not at least just repeal the racially-motivated 1873 carry law, join the majority of States, and allow open carry without a permit. Then it would at least have just caught up to the rest of the country.
We should be at the forefront of gun rights in Texas, but instead we get crumbs: open carry with a permit, shorter LTC classes, the motorist protection act. I think Republican state reps need to start seeing pro-gun primary challenges.
