There’s nothing funnier to this here tech than watching non-tech people with almost no hard factual information whatsoever trying to figure out a tech problem.

I actually looked for it on the sidebar before I posted.
But it wasn’t there anymore.
So I started my own thread....
Someone mentioned increased usage. My FEELING is that that is correct, but of course Jim and John know much more than I do.
I think we have many, many lurkers, and it’s because FR is so durn interesting and clever. It has gotten more so in the 17-plus years that I have been on.
It is easy to get frustrated with FreeRepublic site, especially when skilled in electronics and machinery. However, FreeRepublic is worth the wait. Please try different browsers. Chrome is most popular, Opera is smooth and Seamonkey is secure.
I’m sorry for all the trouble FR is having. I can’t believe I can’t hang out here as much as I want any more. It actually hurts. I hope you can save this wonderful place.
I spend my workdays trying to figure out tech problems, often with no hard factual information (at least at first). After a while you get a feel for what it’s likely to be, but you’re still often wrong. Tech problems often masquerade as something unrelated. Network problems especially.
My company (where I’m a sysadmin) has a number of big database-backended applications and it’s always a scream when users with no idea what is going on try to tell us what they think is causing a slowdown or misbehavior. You just have to smile and tell them to be patient, you’re working on it.

When your posts are slow to load, stop hitting the post key.
If this is the first you have heard, yes -— you have missed a good amount of threads and explanations.

This site has no pop ups no advertising etc. If Jim Rob wanted to be a very rich man he would allow this. If he did he would lose control of our Free Republic as he would be beholden to advertises. This site is provided to us on 100% donations by Freepers.
If ever person that said this site sucks would become a monthly donor we would have great servers and bandwidth.
I personally know Jim Rob and his son that manage this site. Their personally life style is minimal. They could be rich if they decided to make this site commercial.
Quit bitching about the site and donate to the site!

The FR site isn’t broken; it’s a test to see how badly you want to read ‘the rest of the story’...
It’s kinda like a buddy who invites us all over to his house to watch TV. He doesn’t charge anything just wants us to have a good time hanging out together.
Then you come along and after drinking the last beer, demand that he go get more or you’re going home. Even if you’ve tossed a few bucks in the kitty once in a while, what right do you have to make demands? It ain’t your house.
