This 18 month long and polarizing American election has been truly surreal+absurd.
One of the truly strange effects of this election is that certain of my female friendships that had endured for decades—through good times and bad times; through career highs and career failures; through personal disappointment;through joy, happiness and the thrill of victory and personal achievement; through marriages, children, divorce, sickness and even death of loved ones or partners; basically, through life- the good, the very bad and the truly ugly—could not withstand this friggin’ election.
Then she wouldn’t object to you having an Irish coffee at brunch. Just to keep you happy, don’cha know.

Just visited with a friend who has a retail shop. He and I were early Trump supporters.
We haven’t seen each other in about 8 months, so we had an enjoyable time going over the amazing events of 2016 and all things Trump.

I lost a frreind of forty years, a leftist, who called to scream at me about a policial issue that she suspected I supported. She refused to deal with me to talk it through.
This is a person that I was in communication with throughout the forty years.
I have two friends who lean left. Neither of them has responded to me since the election.
At work the leftists are only conversing with other leftists.

My brother and wife are card carrying Libs. I tell folks “I like my brother, just not that much”.
Big Social Justice warrior etc. etc. So he posts on Facebook an article from Huff post about a tree being cut down to be used at Trumps rally in Mobile. Christmas tree. It being Christmas and all.
Don’t know if ya’ll have seen it but the Libs are having a meltdown. Over a damn Christmas tree! Trump doesn’t care about the environment!!!! Because some guy in Mobile cut a tree....So, I made a couple of remarks. Not going too well. Or very well depending on your perspective.
Another kinda funny thing. Mr Social Justice, BLM supporter, illegal immigrant lover, gun hating, Constitution shredder and Fam move, about a year ago to.....NORWAY!!! Lots of diversity there....But I hear they are importing some diversity. Just curious but I wonder what the percentage of Black citizens Norway has?
One or two unfriended me. But I unfriended others, since I got so tired of their distorted thinking.
Hate to say, but I probably had had little in common with these people to begin with. Or maybe I outgrew them. (Or both.)
However, my stepmother, a rabid liberal, has kept me on FB. She posts whatever she can that’s anti-Trump. When I gently contradict her, I get the most absurd rebuttals from her friends that I decided that it’s pointless to argue. They’re too wedded to their defenses.
