This is thin, but it fits into everything that is being said about filling the Secretary of State position.
Source says John Bolton is close to being named Secretary of State, Corker still a remote possibility, Gingrich is out

Bolton would be an inspired choice both in terms of the temperament needed to turn around a fat, flailing and failing State Department that is more interested in being liked by the right people than in pursuing the nations interests and in the message it sends.
State is a byzantine organization with its own personnel regulations and it has traditionally operated as though it was the sole adult in the room and the president, especially when the president was a Republican, was an unruly child. Bolton has caused the Iranians and North Koreans to complain about him in the past and the Democrats filibustered his appointment as UN ambassador. His nomination would be a sign that Trump is serious about foreign policy and that hes not afraid to make enemies of the right people.
I doubt Newt would take the gig. But anything is possible, I suppose.
And RIW’s for moving important stuff more quickly through the bureaucratic maze. You have some great ideas. Obviously a fellow Quality Person.
Then who in the world proposed him for Secretary of State—or any other responsible position? Phooey!
“Perhaps some of you have forgotten, Boltons wife died on one of the planes during 9/11.”
I think you are thinking of Ted Olson.
Have followed John Bolton since he was the UN Ambassador. He’s a no-nonsense guy.
He would be a great choice to contrast with what we have had for the last 8 years: hiLIARy and kerry, who served in Viet Nam, you know.

I like a lot of what Bolton says and he still pisses me off just to listen to him.
Probably not a wise choice.
Bolton is not a NeoCon! Far from it. He got into many disagreements with Bush over his foreign policies.
No, he has a much nicer mustache.
Bolton is not a neo-con. He is a goldwater conservative and trusted member of Reagan’s justice department who was chosen to guide Antonin Scalia’s appointment through confirmation process.
John Bolton in 2007: The EU is a weak, self-absorbed, globalist, statist risk to the world
Terfific Choice.
Newt National Security Director
Why have they never created the position of Secretary of Industrial Development, and especially now that they want to spend trillions on improving our infrastructure?
Um, Bolton got behind Trump in the primaries. He was never a #nevertrump.
I’m inclined to think that Newt wants to stay independent but be on call and an advisor to ANY of Trump’s staff.
Huh? You talking to me?
I think most here have proposed Bolton. Tough, smart dude.
“Newt will be a tsar....”
.
A tsar? Haven’t heard that expression in a long time.
You’re not going 0bama on us, I hope?

Only for a lack of a better word for the moment. The post above has “chief planner”. That will do.
I’ve always admired Bolton.
