In the wake of the long series of lean economic years since the onset of the Great Recession, Americas affluent millennials have taken to shopping for groceries, toiletries and even clothing at ultra-discount stores such as Dollar General and Family Dollar.
Its not just Pabst Blue Ribbon-drinking hipsters trying way too hard to be different, either. At Dollar General, members of the millennial generation of all income brackets accounted for nearly 25 percent of the companys first quarter revenue in 2016, reports Reuters.
Millennials, if you are not up on your demographic jargon, are the cohort of young people born roughly between 1980 and 2000. Its the term baffled academics and journalists have chosen to bestow on the generation after Generation X.
The dollar store-shopping young people found by Reuters say they buy stuff at the stores for the same reason everyone else does: to save cash....

The Moose-limb in the White Hut is attempting to break the spirit of the American people while cutting them off from their historical past, disarming them, arming government agencies to the hilt ("just a strong, just as well funded") and importing millions of unskilled, hostile, mooching Third Worlders.
Just bought a cell phone charger for a dollar at dollar tree.
I have a more negative interpretation of the beheadable millenials: the vast majority of victims in orlando were millenials, all of whom choose to be defenseless and withuot any fight.
Might not last that long but for a buck, what the heck!
I’ve started doing some shopping at Dollar Tree and have found some great.bargains there.
FReepers remain hopeful that $1.00 cellphone charger doesn’t burst into flame while you are asleep! Good luck.
Shopping is bad enough. Imaging having to work there.
In my area the employees seem to be aged overweight over tattoo’d and under qualified.
He's actually one of the better homeless guys in our area. We allow him to stay on a property we own that we couldn't keep other homeless off of even with help from the local sheriff.
Now we have 1 homeless guy who polices the property and keeps it clean.
Thinking his experience at the Dollar Store is serving him well.
BTW he's a millennial 32 years old
I live in an affluent suburb, lots of people are shopping there—big savings to be had on greeting cards, wrapping paper, bags and supplies, and party products.
And the fascist tendencies of “I don’t like your speech, you shouldn’t be allowed to say it, you said it again, hater! I have the right to assault you because you assailed me with your hate speech!”
It is more honorable than refusing to work to collect SSDI, and the far too many millenials whose parents got them classified as learning disabled to get checks and now they graduate to full welfare.
I respect the ones working over those who will not work.
YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS LEVEL OF ABJECT STUPIDITY UP!
Batteries are the best value. Eight AA batteries for $1, as opposed to $8 at a pharmacy. True, the Bunny batteries last much longer, but when the batteries are used to put in a computer mouse, why not pocket the savings?
Two days ago I bought a very healthy variety (no Yellow 31, or Purple 96 inside) of Wise corn chips for $1. Not a mini-bag, but a bag the size that could easily fetch for $2.50 in your average grocery store.
My local Athens, GA Dollar Tree sells a tasty $1 block of spicy cheese that would sell for $3.95 elsewhere.
And the workers at these dollar stores have to be incredibly efficient -- stocking shelves, working the cash register at the same time.
I put these Dollar stores in the same category as ALDI, a great, no-frills grocery store that has fabulous food at very reasonable prices.
hey, they got some good stuff at the Dollar Store....
Low Budget - The Kinks
Cheap is small and not too steep
But best of all cheap is cheap
Circumstance has forced my hand
To be a cut price person in a low budget land
Times are hard but we’ll all survive
I just got to learn to economize
I’m on a low budget
I’m on a low budget
I’m not cheap, you understand
I’m just a cut price person in a low budget land
Excuse my shoes they don’t quite fit
They’re a special offer and they hurt me a bit
Even my trousers are giving me pain
They were reduced in a sale so I shouldn’t complain
They squeeze me so tight so I can’t take no more
They’re size 28 but I take 34
I’m on a low budget
What did you say
I’m on a low budget
I thought you said that
I’m on a low budget
I’m a cut price person in a low budget land
I’m shopping at Woolworth and low discount stores
I’m dropping my standards so that I can buy more
Quality costs, but quality wastes,
So I’m giving up all of my expensive tastes.
Caviar and champagne are definite no’s,
I’m acquiring a taste for brown ale and cod roes
Low budget sure keeps me on my toes
I count every penny and I watch where it goes
We’re all on our uppers we’re all going skint
I used to smoke cigars but now I suck polo mints
I’m on a low budget
What did you say
Yea I’m on a low budget
I thought you said that
I’m on a low budget
I’m a cut price person in a low budget land
I’m on a low budget
Low budget
Low budget
Art takes time, time is money
Money’s scarce and that ain’t funny
Millionaires are things of the past
We’re in a low budget film where nothing can last
Money’s rare there’s none to be found
So don’t think I’m tight if I don’t buy a round
I’m on a low budget
What did you say
Yes I’m on a low budget
I thought you said that
I’m on a low budget
I’m a cut price person in a low budget land
I’m on a low budget
Say it again
Low budget
One more time
Low budget
[I look like a tramp, but don’t write me off,
I’ll have you all know, I was once a tough
At least my hair is all mine, my teeth are my own,
But everything else is on permanent loan.
Once all my clothes were made by hand,
Now I’m a cut price person in a low budget land.
I’m on a low budget
I’ll have you all know
We’re on a low budget
I’m on a low budget
