He didn’t even try, other than the obligatory “show votes” and “strongly worded letters”. I think you're exaggerating a bit. Unless I see the strongly worded letters, I'm not going to believe they ever existed.

It’s a hypothetical. Trump and the GOPe are in negotiation. What if they [the GOPe] drew the line and said Ryan for VP or we will undermine you at every turn. I’m sure it’s on somebodies possible scenario list.

good question. Near as I can figure, since 1856 ( Dem & Repubs only), outside of incumbents, nobody has run a second time except a RAT - Adlai Stevenson - who won in 1892 & lost 1900.
