An effort by a group of Stanford University students to restore a Western Civilization class requirement has been decisively rejected by the student body, with voting results released Monday showing it mustering less than 15 percent support.
The ballot initiative was promoted by members of the school’s conservative-leaning Stanford Review. If passed, it would have called for Stanford to require that all freshmen complete a two-quarter course covering “the politics, history, philosophy, and culture of the Western world.” Stanford once possessed a similar requirement, but eliminated it after a student campaign in the 1980s that denounced it as fostering racism, sexism, and other perfidious -isms.
Supporters managed to collect 370 signatures on their petition, enough to include it as a ballot measure for Stanford’s spring student government election.
But it turns out Stanford has no enthusiasm for requiring the study of Western civilization. In election results released Monday, the proposal failed by an overwhelming margin, with 342 votes in favor and a whopping 1992 votes against.
In contrast, over 90 percent of students voted in favor of an initiative requiring the school to administer a new campus climate survey designed to find the rate of sexual assault on campus. The school already administered such a survey in 2015, but it outraged activists by finding a sexual assault rate of just 1.9%, which they deemed far too low.
The mere suggestion that Stanford require studying Western civilization had generated immense outrage among certain Stanford communities. A low-income advocacy group at the school suspended a member based on the suspicion that he wrote an anonymous piece supporting the proposal. A hostile column in The Stanford Daily warned that accepting the proposal would mean centering Stanford education on “upholding white supremacy, capitalism and colonialism, and all other oppressive systems that flow from Western civilizations.”
The universities need to be shutdown and purged. Anything less and we’ll lose our civilization.

I am sorry you had to apologize to people who didn’t deserve it. They should have been thanking the country they live in for the opportunity to go to a university.
Step 2: Ban all motor vehicles from entering Stanford's physical space. Reason given above.
Step 3: Remove all computers from the campus. Reason given above.
Step 4: Close any campus health care facilities which practice Western medicine.
Step 5: Oh, hell, forget steps 1-4 and any other such proposals and just shut Stanford down completely. After all the very idea of a "university" was a Western development during the Middle Ages (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University) Therefore the whole thing has got to go.
It is time for the students of Stanford to take the ultimate
step. They need to initiate a campaign to change the name
of their institution to reflect how they truly feel about
Western civilization. Founder Leland Stanford was a
capitalist tycoon who made a fortune on the backs of Chinese
immigrants who built his railroad. He is a prime example
of the worst Western civilization has to offer and is
demonstrative of evil white privilege to the extreme. My
suggestion is to rename the institution Caesar Chavez
University. Do yourself proud, students. Live up to your
ideals!

"We feel like we've been abused over the last 7 years, on all fronts, you name it, the PC crap, constant race crap, 'income inequality', EPA abuse, out of control business choking regulations and more each day, IRS abuse, Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the various subgroups, 'white privilege' crap, the bathroom crap, The Obamas, their obvious hatred of America, the vacations, the arrogance, Cloward-Piven on steroids, people abusing the welfare programs, Obamacare, 'fundamental transformation', the anti-religious tone, the anti-business tone, the anti-capitalist crap, the open-borders invasion and 'refugees', activist SCOTUS, activist judges infiltrating all our court systems, brainwashing our kids in public school, hopeless Marxist colleges and universities, the Uniparty betrayals in 2012 and 2014, totally corrupt RNC, GOPe, K-street lobbyists, 'D.C. gravy train', Hillary email/server mess, 'Arab Spring' mess, ISIS, no 'Islamic Terrorism', 'workplace violence', and let's face it, the straight up communism." . . You could go on and on. . . and Hillary is on deck? Scrreeeaamming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm holding out for November 8, 2016. . I hate to think of what will happen if Hillary wins. Where will all this anger go? Where will 'The Movement' go? The Tea Party folks? They're not going away. These people want their country back. How will all that rage be handled? It's almost a clinical question. .

It’s real and we’re all experiencing it. We’ve all been beaten down over the last 7 years.
I thought we were going to end up with Jeb and Hillery with Hillery winning and watching her destroy this nation even more with a massive 3ed world invasion and then Trump entered. No PC bs, telling hard truths no one wanted to hear, ignoring people trying to force him to be politically correct. It’s amazing.
I have hope that a leader like Trump can hold back the night but I have my doubts too. The country is just so far gone and the level of force required to fix it will be enormousness. I don’t know if he can do it but I know the rest of the GOPe certainly won’t. Heck I don’t even know he’ll get the nomination with the way things are going, but I still have hope for the future thanks to Trump.

Let’s be honest there are no saintly civilizations. But I think the Western Civilizations deserve a lot of credit for the Enlightenment. I only wish it had lasted longer.
And by the way I will make no apologies for capitalism or the colonialism of the British Empire. Capitalism is responsible for the great advances of the last 200 years. And the British Empire is responsible for the many of the great democratic republics of the world such as the United States, India, and Taiwan.
Stanford should, in the spirit of fair advertising, rename itself: University of Atheism at Palo Alto.

Understanding Western Civilization does foster a belief that our culture is better. That's because our culture is the best in the history of the world. We have specialized in "cultural appropriation" for thousands of years and have adopted every positive idea we have encountered in other cultures. Leftists require ignorance in others if they are to spread their beliefs and bring back the dark ages they yearn for.

Very true. I’ve never thought of it quite that way. When I think of that bizarre alliance, my mind usually goes straight to the end result. You know, when the Progressives wake up one day to discover they aren’t exempted from inclusion in the “Infidel-Who-Needs-Killing” subset.
That's because nothing in it is true.

We’ll probably find more and more of this type of anti-American attitude as public and private universities block admissions to resident state students in favor of seating foreign students at three times the tuition.
