Cruz supporters: Did Cruz's comments change your mind on him?
vanity | March 12, 2016 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

I am a Trump supporter but I would like to know if Cruz's comments about Chicago changed the mind of any of his supporters. Is it A) no difference I still support Cruz B) I am rethinking my support for Cruz C) I am now going to support another candidate or not voting?

Just heard that a quarter of Cruz’s Twitter followers unfollowed him in the last 15 hours.

You should look at his Facebook page, he's getting consistently flamed.

I take your point, but you must agree that Trump has said things at his rallies that ought not be said. Still, I agree that those remarks did not contribute to the nastiness on the Left. The Left was already nasty and depraved before Trump came along.

I’d happily elect G.W. Bush again over Trump. At least Bush tried to reform Social Security and give me my own money back in private accounts. Trump wants to keep funding all the big, wasteful government entitlement programs.

I switched to Trump a couple of weeks ago. Glenn Beck (who I used to like) helped change my mind. This crap last nite cemented my decision.

“Cruz, on the other hand, IS an actual conservative with a real conservative track record. Cruz at least has a chance to beat Shrillery”

While Cruz is better than Hillary, he isn’t some conservative hope. He is a Bushie and bankers tool. His schtik is to repeat Christian and Constitution as often as possible to trick well meaning people.
He has never created a single thing of value, and gave us TPP with his TPA vote.
He handed out soccer balls to the “children” at the border.

And he has zero chance against Hillary. Not fair at all, but because of his beady eyes and grandpa munster look.

Yeah, maybe he could start another useless War and make his Donors a few more Trillions.

Cruz is quick to blame Trump for a Bill Ayers organized protest (Facebook protest page has at Mar 4th comments), yet Cruz never disavowed Glenn Beck’s comments about stabbing. Everyone knew Beck made them against Trump, since that’s who he was talking about. Cruz didn’t even disavow Beck talking about stabbing anyone even his co-host while talking about Trump.

“Trump was nowhere in the picture when the rent-a-mob destroyed Ferguson, MO. What is their excuse for that?”

Based on what Cruz and company said about Trump, no doubt they blame the POLICE for Ferguson. Who knows? Maybe they even blame AMERICA for 9/11. You know...radical Muslims hate us because of our Christian faith and lifestyle. So it could only have been our fault, right? (/SARC)

Maybe next Cruz can blame the rape victims for dressing too sexy and egging on the men. Let’s just wait to see!

I was all for cruz or Trump when the primaries were starting. Now I wouldn’t pull the lever for him.

He has not started a fire or attacked anyone racially, ever. He has said nothing abusive.

WTF? Are you talking about Trump? The delusional view you have of your "dear leader" is absolutely stunning. Trump supporters are the blindest people in politics since Obama supporters.

You seem to ask an honest question, and therefore I will try to give one guy’s honest answer.

The comments don’t change my mind, and I don’t think I have ever even been a terribly passionate Cruz supporter. I honestly am far more wary of giving the nomination - and perhaps presidency - to a man I sincerely see as a natural-born authoritarian with no historic evidence of underlying moral or philosophical conviction.

That is not to say the whole thing isn’t conflicting. Those protestors have no right to prevent free speech, or to accost, threaten, and bring harm to the person or property of a peaceful assembly. When I see the sort of thing I saw last night, I get angry and feel a tendency toward, let’s say, “countermeasure” myself.

But it is undeniable that Trump has sewn the seeds of such conflict. People have a right to defend themselves of course, and vigorously so. A leader should certainly not repress that right. But Trump has done more than affirm individual self defense and it is disingenuous of him now to play coy about his past words.

One should never blame a victim, but normally at Freerepublic, people don’t seem to shirk individual accountability either. Those organized, and possibly paid, protestors last night are accountable for the crimes and offenses they committed... But Trump taunted them and encouraged violence as a flippant way to fire up his crowds and seem tough. Personally, his toughness has always seemed more like a rich guy hiding behind his lawyers to me - I question whether he has ever thrown a real punch in his life - and I have long felt he has been playing with fire.

It is a pity, because he clearly understands and is tapped into the deep frustration that conservatives in this country feel. But rather than channel that into constructive action, he has just stoked the fires of passion into rage and offered no solutions. I truly wish he was less Tom Pain and more James Madison. But that’s not what he is.

I wish Cruz had maybe phrased it differently, and his tack does strike me as more opportunist than out of genuine concern for social order. Sometimes he annoys me like everyone else; he is not a perfect candidate. But he had a point, and as such did not change my mind.

The left might certainly hate Cruz, but they don’t fear him. They do however fear Trump. He has earned my vote.

Was diehard for Cruz. He made a fatal error in judgment last night when he sought to blame Trump for what should have been laid at the feet of common street thugs and Washington whores. I don’t fool easily but Mr. Cruz had me fooled. He had me really believing Washington insiders hated him. This is just one terrific play by Karl “the great and powerful Oz” Rove. I’m done. Don’t bother.

I listened to the entirety of Cruz’s remarks, not just an out-of-context soundbite. I support Cruz as much as ever.
