Can we slow down on the Vanity posts. There is so much chaff on the site now it takes forever to get through the real news articles.
The vanities lately have become screeds, responses to screeds, or simply horrible blog posts.
I understand the irony of using a vanity to kill vanities.
But, this junk has got to stop.
That is all.
Flame away.
I Love a good Ranting OPUS
Makes My Day !
Doesn’t titling a post “vanity” get the job done?
I agree that there are plenty of vanities, but I don’t see where that can irk or harm any Freeper. There’s lots of religious threads, science, support troops and other types of threads.
Not your cup of tea? Don’t click on them and your problem will be solved.
Some vanities aren’t even worthy of a comment on an existing thread. This is not a chat room.

"....and so on and on."
While I love listening to and discussing music, I have been annoyed by -- but have ignored and not mentioned, until now -- what seems to be the daily appearance of three or four 'Random Artist -- Full Album' links to random YouTube videos.
I come here to read and discuss political news and opinions. I will continue to ignore these links, but since the subject of annoyances was broached, felt it was fair game to mention them.
No offense intended to those who post or enjoy these things, but I don't think they belong here...
I was just about to say I have no issue with vanity posts, but what gets me is how, in the middle of important discussions, some like to change subject and start talking about food... LOL
Some people just need to draw attention to themselves and their conceited nature.
I, on the other hand, can’t wait until tomorrow because I get better looking every day...
You’re so vain. You probably think this post is about you.
While we’re at it. We need dozens more youtube music album and greatest hits threads. You know. Just in case 6 in a row weren’t enough.
Your eyes are going, huh?
Vanity posts are used to hitch vanities to.
Maybe all posting of articles/threads needs to go thru a monitor before the actual posting.
Would you be available to take the job? Long hours, no pay but control power.
Vanities are pop-culture at their worst. Welcome that what’s left of America. Idiocracy, the movie, is now a documentary.
Question....
Do you click on a thead via the ‘Articles’ page or the ‘comments’ page?
If you review posted threads on the ‘articles’ page it gives you the source, etc.
example: http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=articles
That was the best bad movie I’d seen in a long time.
Ever suck an egg? Its kind of gross.
I used to blow eggs empty and cover the shells with wax to color them.
This was before plastic was invented.
News aggregation is a good thing, too.
But news I’ve aggregated into this forum from the BBC of all sources has been taken down. Reasons like it was a ‘wraparound’ were given.
The story was about rioting in Corsica, which is part of France. An Islamic Center was attacked and there was a lot of anger for and against the violence.
I think it was taken down when I posted it from the BBC and even other sources because of fear of what the comments would read like since Islam was involved.
My persistence in trying to post the story which was legitimate news and complaining about it in the forum only got me banned from posting anything for several days.
All the news is not allowed to be aggregated in this forum and other cases it is suppressed.
My posts from MSM sources, MSM news stories about the Oregon Standoff have all had the topics taken out of them within minutes of my posting from “Front Page News” to “Breaking News” to “Extended New” to even “Oregon”.
Because after you re-write it, it ceases to be news.
Yes, it was news when you stole it, but after you stick your
own name on it as a “source”.. you’ve made it into something else.
You should label that crap as a vanity and post it in chat.
Or not at all.
Print it out and tape it to your fridge if your so proud of it.
Oh my lord no!
I guess if I were to edit my original post, it would be to ask people to start their “vanity posts” with “VANITY:”.
It is a simple solution.
I tend to click on both new posts (yesterday is a good example, I wanted to check out the thoughts on Scalia’s passing.) I also will click on “Articles” to get a bigger view of what is going on. It is my “micro”/”macro” way of culling through the flow of information.
No need to beat the horse dead. A nice reminder once in a while would be helpful.
I DO know that there are sources we cannot post from.
It could be that the way they are posted caused them to be yanked. That happens every day.
I do not envy the Admin’s having to do that daily.
