Trump and Cruz MUST call a truce (Vanity)
2-14-16 | ME

Posted on 02/14/2016 12:39:42 AM PST by Angels27

First off I am for Ted Cruz. Secondly, for quite a while, I couldn't fathom voting for Trump as I can't get myself to trust he is for real.

But, I do appriciate the war against the GOPe that Donald Trump did instigate. Not even Ted Cruz could have instigated such an attack against the forces that seek to destroy us. Trump single handedly took down the GOPe golden child Jeb! Bush...at least until last nights debate.

Now I know the audience was mostly stacked by the South Carolina GOPe so that's why Trump and Cruz were booed a lot and Jeb! and Rubio got the loudest cheers. The boos didn't bother me. Cruz and Trump at each others throats did.

When Cruz and Trump were attacking each other, that's where the debate crashed and burned for insurgents. Trump and Cruz looked bad in the end and Jeb! and Rubio came out of this debate looking strong.

Fortunately it was a Saturday night and I am sure many Republican voters were out and did not see this disaster. But they will see the sound bites which will make Trump and Cruz look worse...and Jeb! and Rubio look better.

I understand politics. I know it's a blood sport. But If I could speak to both of them directly, I would tell both Trump and Cruz to lay off each other... at least until they are the last two standing. They need to unite as the insurgents against a corrupt GOPe. They are allowing an opening fro Jeb! (and Rubio) to get back in this thing. The need to focus their attacks on the ruling class (Jeb!) and amnesty whores (Rubio, Jeb!, Kasich). As of now, I believe Jeb! and Rubio have new life and that ain't good

I know it's one debate, but Trump and Cruz are getting extremely vile and nasty towards one another and it must stop. They need to unite in one common goal; to take down and destroy the GOPe.

Once they drive the the other clowns from the race and they are the last two standing, then they can do what politics requires to win. But until then, focus on the issues and focus on the destruction and havoc caused by the GOPe candidates.

BTW: I have changed. If Trump gets the nomination I will have to overlook my doubts and dislike of him and vote for him. Justice Scalia's death has reminded me how important it is that Hillary or Bernie never get to appoint a SCOTUS justice.

My tag agrees with you. After Trump and Ted I have no interest in the rest.

Perhaps, even now, they are working together.

By apparently fighting it out like this, the kiddies get virtually no Oxygen and are left scrambling for scraps. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is one big act.

Anyway, we’ll see. If Trump picks Cruz as his running mate, then I’ll suspect my theory is correct.

They all missed a chance to go after the Democrat candidates and what a disaster they would be.

That should have been everyones focus.

I didn’t like Cruz OR Trump while that was going on.

And the audience was a national embarrassment.

I’m inclined to agree. I do wish they could put the needs of the nation ahead of themselves. That is two big, stubborn egos that need to back it down some notches though. And I’m doubtful there is the desire or the intent, in either of them.

I respectfully disagree with your theory. I think the animus is real.

Like it or not, however, the two of them may be compelled to work together to avoid a brokered convention and some schlub ‘compromise candidate’ taking the prize. I hope they are each big enough, wise enough, and humble enough to do that, however unpleasant or awkward that may be.

I always vote and always vote Republican over Democrat, so the general election decision isn’t an issue for me.

But it’s hard to believe that, if almost every past GOP president picked some bad nominees, that political neophyte and recent purported convert to conservatism (or to conserving?) Trump will be skilled enough to pick a good one.

I said just a week or two ago in response to Trumpsters that the single most important issue to me is not immigration, but Supreme Court picks. As soon as the liberals get that 5th justice, they will pass unconstitutional laws in all their states and sue over other laws they dislike, knowing that they will win every single case in the end. You won’t get any immigration plan passed because the court will rule deportation unconstitutional.

If it gets that bad, the GOP Congress would almost have to go nuclear on the court and try to legislatively take away their jurisdiction on a host of issues. They’d have to bypass the filibuster to do it. All of that is uncharted territory and we can’t be sure McConnell, et al. could be persuaded to do it, or how long it would stand if Dems get Congress back later.

If Obama gets a nominee in, our only hope is that a liberal judge creates a vacancy (Ginsburg?) and the GOP president gets the court back in balance. So we want a president who can be trusted to make good picks. Even Jim Robinson posted in a recent article here discussing the Cruz/Trump conflict that he thought Cruz probably had in advantage over Trump in his ability to pick good nominees. That’s my feeling, and one reason I have remained convinced to support Cruz over Trump.

I won’t argue my point too hard...it may be more wishful thinking.

Donald didn’t attack Ted until Ted’s poll numbers increased.

At first Ted ignored it, or made jokes about it, but when Trump got really outrageous, Crus had to fight back, and DID.

Anybody notice how Rubio, and Trump both attacked Cruz at the debate?

Hmmmmmmm

Cruz even started out the debate not attacking Trump. He only did so after Trump went after him. Trump is the one who is driving the negativity in this campaign. He has attacked EVERY Republican who he thinks might beat him since he got into this race, starting with Jeb.

In this way, among many others, Trump is the “Romney” of this race. Gingrich said he didn’t want to attack any Republicans and wanted to stay positive. Nevertheless, Romney launched a scorched earth campaign on him and then on Santorum later.

You want a one way truce? Trump have always attack anyone who attack him. So as long as Cruz don’t attack him, he won’t attack him either. The ball is with Cruz

Cruz is running some pretty nasty ads against Trump in SC, and Trump cancelled his one negative Cruz ad, which I thought was quite good, because he wanted to run a positive campaign. If you’re Cruz and you have others doing your dirty work for you, why attack Trump? It’s the weasel approach ... Cruz gets by with it quite often, but that is changing a bit.

True, and to make it worse, Trumps talks, while Cruz is talking. Trump is doing his best to make Bernie and Hillary look better, not himself.

Trump needs a muzzle.

Cruz has been at war with the GOPe since before he was elected to the Senate.

Trump is just another liberal.

Perhaps even now they are working together

It hasn't looked that was since Iowa, maybe earlier. Last night, what seemed to the in unison was Trump, Rubio, and Carson calling out Cruz as a liar. Add to that, no one defended Cruz, not even himself.

I can't imagine how that performance gained Cruz any supporters. But it does seem to move Rubio way past the criticisms in the last debate.

I thought Rubio won in that his performance not only probably stopped the loss of support and might have won some of the other wannabee supporters over to him.
