Stinkinâ Canadian. Dang feriner, conspirinâ to come over here and replace our delicious, crispy, all-American bacon with that floppy, communist, Canadian crap. And Budweiser? Like your Budweiser? Forget it. If heâs elected, itâs nothing but that skunky Molson swill for you, my friend. Football? Banned. Itâs all sticks, pucks and missing teeth from here on out. A wall on the southern border? ISIS? TB-infected Mesicans and Central Americans? Ha! A mere diversion. Trump needs to build that wall up north to keep commie Canucks like Ted Cruz out of the White House.
Heâs gaining on The Donald, you see. And so finally the question of his eligibility to serve as our 45th U.S. president is fair game. Oh, sure, Ted grew up in Houston, Texas. And, oh, sure, his mother, who happened to be over the border in Canada when Ted was born, is a U.S citizen, herself born in Wilmington, Delaware, which, oh, sure, automatically makes Ted a U.S. citizen from birth. But, hey! I, the guys down at the Elks Lodge with their pocket constitutions and whatnot, and Donald Trump, who, with his own political self-interests in mind has suddenly flip-flopped on the subject, all disagree. Ted Cruz is ineligible to serve as President of the United States based upon our extreme-minority take on the phrase, âNatural-born citizen.â
For that matter, and based upon our own arbitrary and narrow definition â I know, itâs not defined in the Constitution, but derpity derp derp anyway â some might suggest that eight of the first nine U.S. presidents should have been ineligible to serve as well. Since they were all born as British citizens in the British colonies, George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, et al., should have been, one and all, constitutionally ineligible.

Article 2, Section one ...
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President ...
And that is defined, as noted by research I posted above.
I see you insist on partying like it's 1867.
But, in 1868 we ratified the 14th Amendment and the father's citizenship could no longer be the sole determinative factor for jus sanguinis. The mother's became equally determinative.
Sorry, but your party has been over for 148 years.
I completely understand the depth of frustration that Cruz supporters feel. In fact, just quoting the Constitution just now, I’m ready to grasp at a straw myself ...
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President...
What is this ‘or a Citizen of the United States’ about? So if someone is not natural born, but he was born as a citizen ...? [crossing fingers]
That may be your research, but mine’s more complete and more authoritative. ping my name, and read it.
I was surprised too at WND.
Why won’t Ted release his CRBA that his mother had to apply for to get Ted US citizenship.
Why won’t Ted release his passport?
Why did it take his father 48 years to become American?
I thought his arguments at the debate were shallow. He attacked Lawrence Tribe his own teacher at Harvard rather than try to refute the arguments. That sure doesn’t work in a court of law.
‘The mother’s became equally determinative.’ — 14th Amendment.
I hope you are right. But was that based on widened court interpretation?
Carry Okie — did the 14th Amendment clearly or arguably change natural born status? Give the mother equal status regarding ‘natural born’?
If it's a matter of "which came first", Cruz loses that lottery, I'd think....but that's opinion. Someone's got to sort it out.
That statement is a total and utter lie. Vattel makes no such assertion. Quite the contrary. I'm not going to keep posting the references over and over again, but the Trumpbot's continual posting of lies is getting tiresome. So stop parroting this crap and do the research. It's not rocket science.
‘He attacked Lawrence Tribe his own teacher at Harvard rather than try to refute the arguments.’
Did he say anything of substance that refuted Tribe?
I didn’t post the ‘two parents’ opinion, did I?
I quoted original intent — father rather than mother.
All Cruz has to do is sue for equal protection under the 14th and he can force the Congress to apply the same standard they used for Obama, McCain, et al and he will be eligible with a single citizen parent and born on foreign soil.
See reference to Vattel.
I’m not sure what you might have posted, but the ‘father’ only position was superseded by the 14th Amendment which made men and women equal before the law. For that to be true, both men and women must be able to bequeath their citizenship to their children.
If only it were that easy.
That provision in the constitution which requires that the president shall be a native-born citizen (unless he were a citizen of the United States when the constitution was adopted,) is a happy means of security against foreign influence, which, wherever it is capable of being exerted, is to he dreaded more than the plague. The admission of foreigners into our councils, consequently, cannot be too much guarded against; their total exclusion from a station to which foreign nations have been accustomed to, attach ideas of sovereign power, sacredness of character, and hereditary right, is a measure of the most consummate policy and wisdom. The title of king, prince, emperor, or czar, without the smallest addition to his powers, would have rendered him a member of the fraternity of crowned heads: their common cause has more than once threatened the desolation of Europe. To have added a member to this sacred family in America, would have invited and perpetuated among us all the evils of Pandoras Box.
Of Article II, section I, clause 5, Supreme Court Justice Joseph story said this 46 years after the adoption of the constitution:
A loophole for themselves was created out of respect to those distinguished revolutionary patriots, who were born in a foreign land
It doesn't get much clearer than that my friend.
Seriously? What do you think the 1790 Naturalization act was FOR?
‘Someone’s got to sort it out.’
This really stinks because Cruz is a top notch candidate. But here’s some of the nitty-gritty about the ‘cage fight’ Mitch McConnell set up [noted above ....]
Cruz gets sympathy-support. Only 1/4 of republicans think he’s not qualified. If this becomes the single-issue of the primary, Cruz might well win the primary after both anti-establishment camps rip each other apart.
Then phase 2 — McConnell’s Senate refuses to back him. Up. Democrats ask, ‘Why not? See, you low-info voters! They don’t think Cruz is qualified. Maybe we were wrong about Obama’s qualification too. Goodness gracious. Professor Laurence Tribe is a super-genius. No wonder we always admired him so.”
Now Cruz has a drag on his support that has NOTHING to do with safe borders or ISIS invading the Free World.
Congress found Pbama eligible with a single citizen parent, the mother. Congress found McCain eligible born on foreign soil. Game, set, match.
or a Citizen of the United States AT THE TIME OF THE ADOPTION OF THE CONSTITUTION.
How do you know when a Lawyer is lying? His lips move.
