Avis Car Rental Latest Statement regarding Israeli citizen renting car.
11/23/15 | me

Posted on 11/23/2015 12:59:45 PM PST by machogirl

From Avis Facebook, new statement. Guess they Varsity team took over. (much better statement)

We have investigated the denial of a rental that recently occurred in Manhattan. We have found that we have been inconsistent in applying our policies with respect to documentation requirements with this customer, who has rented from us in the past without providing a second form of identification. We are committed to providing an outstanding car rental experience to our customers and believe that we should have done better here. We have spoken with the customer and apologized for the misunderstanding that occurred as a result of this inconsistency in applying our documentation policy, and the customer has accepted our apology. We reiterate our policy that we do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin or sexual orientation. We intend to take steps, including additional training, to improve the consistency in our application of documentation policies.

How many other "facts" are you serving up that are false or are poorly read between the lines?

All of them. Check out his posting history on the other Avis thread.

And stock was removed from a store in Germany because it was from Israel. After a big stink, they did put the Israeli merchandise back up. So abhorrent in Germany particularly!

I understand Avis’s initial response, they were disgusted by the false accusations of bigotry.

Were you there? You are the only one spamming the threads with made up facts. I called you out yesterday.

Yesterday when you were confronted you posted non-stop acquisitions that had no support in fact. You made them all up and then accused others of being race baiters.

I think you owe Free Republic your reasons for going emotionally overboard on this. You have allowed your irrational (or dishonest) side to come out and insult many good Freepers. What are your real motives?

Yes indeed. I was over a decade and a half away from being born when the war ended. I remember the first book that I read as a child that included pictures taken. I still can’t believe humans could and can be so evil.

“There weren’t any racist jerks in this story. It was a false narrative.”

Indeed. Because it’s not like that particular Avis location has ever given bad service before:

Everything I’ve said is directly from statements in the articles and the companies policy statements.

In fact all you really need to draw an accurate conclusion in this case is two sentences.

The statement from the company explaining their policy requiring either a passport or international drivers license from foreign drivers.

And secondly the statement from the wife decrying how unreasonable it was for the agent not to accept the license alone. Yeah, how unreasonable for a company to uphold it’s policies and procedures. They got away without the required docs last time, must be racism when they require it this time!

I’ve rented a car in a foreign country several times. I had to show passport every time, despite having frequent renter card from thrifty, budget, etc..

But you’re right, I should be up front about my true motives here.

I think we’ve all read cases lately involving social justice warriors using false accusations of racism to wreck companies and individuals.

Having read the facts of this case, I think that’s exactly what has happened here.

A lot of freepers have been totally duped into running with the bogus bigotry narrative against Avis.

Who wins? Who is rewarded? People and press who throw around false accusations of racism to make people and companies tremble.

Who loses? A brand, employees, investors, even customers all duped by a false “racist!” narrative.

I’ve even seen freepers doing research on the agent with the implication of hoping to cause her real life difficulty.

Here I see an exec, press, and freepers all embracing the methods of SJW left.

It’s disgusting when the left does it and rewards it.

If anything it’s even more disgusting when the right does it.

Even if everything you say is true. When he showed his passport what was the excuse?

Because when he showed it to her she STILL refused? Maybe?

This is an interesting review (posted in july) thanks for the link.

This is not the first time I rent from AVIS and from this particular place. First of all if you’re a foreigner DO NOT rent from here. I handed in my Argentina license and was told it wasn’t a real license and therefore could not rent the car. I argued over 1hr and finally got the car. I also has a $100 off coupon and they told me I couldn’t use it because I wasn’t American. Be extra sure before you drive off that the EZ pass is closed if you’re not using it. This is not the first time I decline EZ pass and get a car with the EZ pass box open. If you don’t realize before approaching a toll you’ll be charged for using it. I agree with every other review here DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!!!!! The people at the office are 100% non-cooperative refuse to help in any way and don’t care

So, Mount Athos - did you read the comments about that particular office on the Yelp link that catnipman posted?

Bunch of SJWs laying the groundwork for this "attack" for many months prior to this incident?

Avis eats crow, but this had nothing to do with insufficient ID.

Yes I read the comments about bad service on yelp.

What is the connection with this case?

I guess I can see one.

The customer tried to bully the agent into breaking company policy, to withdraw the request for the passport and take the drivers license alone.
Ever seen an exec manipulate situations with “Do you know who I am??”.

It’s probably a tough office in NYC, they get all kinds of rude manipulative people in there, and she shut him down quickly.

I doubt the bad service in yelp was motivated by bigotry, and I don’t even think this case indicates bad service.
Just an exec with an ego throwing his weight around, with false claims of victimization and racism that came far too easily.

The husband makes clear that he initially presented only credit card and israeli license. That he hadn’t given a passport in 15 years of renting, and hadn’t this time either.

The wife’s statement I think makes clear that the office agent was never offered a passport.
“There was no way they would rent a car with that license. There was no way to reason with them.”

He only offered a passport during a conversation with the national agent on the phone, after they confirmed that the agent and manager were correct in requesting a passport. Unfortunately by that time his behavior had convinced the office that they didn’t want to rent to him. (according to his own words in the article)

The earlier official statement from avis confirmed that a passport or international drivers license is required from foreigners. Doesn’t change if an earlier agent neglected to ask for one, though it explains the confusion

I will translate the yelp complaint

Translation: Those employees are total jerks for demanding secondary ID like a passport as called for in their company policy. I will write a complaint in yelp smearing them because they wouldn’t break this company policy for me.

“I handed in my Argentina license and was told it wasn’t a real license and therefore could not rent the car. I argued over 1hr and finally got the car.”

Another person who don’t want to show secondary ID passport?

Daily News reporter easily snags fake ID in Queens hotspot for phony documents

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/queens-neighborhood-hot-spot-fake-ids-docs-article-1.1812718

It took me just an hour and a half to get a fake ID in New York City’s ground zero for the fraudulent document business — Roosevelt Ave. in Queens.

The Jackson Heights neighborhood is the epicenter of fake paper mills — rackets that fuel teenage drinking and identity theft and also create fake green cards and passports that can pose a serious security threat.

I didn’t get a new high-tech driver’s license — those are much harder to reproduce - but the market for current licenses, which are still valid if they are issued before September 2013, is skyrocketing.

According to figures from the Queens district attorney’s office, there have already been 130 arrests this year in the borough for creating or possessing fraudulent documents, which include green cards, Social Security cards and passports.

Last year, there were 250 collars, and in 2012 there were 273, according to the DA’s office.

Identity theft is also a problem — there were 262 people charged with the crime in 2012, and 260 charged in 2013.

No, you completely misread the story.

Really?

I just got through up-voting all the negative reviews on yelp.
