What else but White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” explains Carson poll numbers?

Simple analysis shows Ben Carson’s support is driven by the White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” crowd.

Carson is a nice and decent human being. He has a soothing way of speaking and makes most of his points when he stays within is narrow field of knowledge. He is Black and a conservative Republican. All of these qualities make him an attractive candidate for a certain segment of the Republican rank and file: The White guilt crowd.

Supporting Carson gives them the chance to congratulate themselves and proclaim, “I am not a bigot. I oppose Barack Obama not because he is Black, but because he is a dangerous Marxist/Socialist.”

While this may sound harsh it is quite supportable.

The latest Gallup survey on which issues are most important to voters finds 33% said the economy.

The latest Rasmussen Report shows 56% of likely Republican primary voters expect Donald Trump to be their eventual nominee.

Without offering a list of names to choose from, a Harris poll found 47% of Republicans think Trump is the best candidate to create jobs. Just 3% say the same about Carson!

What else, but White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” explains 33% saying the economy is their top issue and only 3% saying Carson is the man to fix it translating into 20 – 27% support for him?

A new survey from Arizona shows Trump actually trailing Carson by...

Are Seventh Day Adventists considered Christian? Just curious.

By the way, David Koresh started out as a Seventh Day Adventist but made some major changes.

Don't forget that he, like the other top candidate, is not a politician and is not a lawyer.

That is becoming very important.

Agree.

White guilt explains most of Carson’s support.

Carson’s for amnesty, more gun control laws, has a Farrakhan supporter as one of his top aids, has said that he and Al Sharpton want the same things, only registered as a republican last year.

I’ve always felt that it was the “white guilters” who are eager to vote for any black guy with an R after his name that are driving his numbers up. IA for example, is filled with millions of people who were brought up on Jane Elliot’s BS programs, so it’s not surprising Carson is doing well there.

Four years ago Cain was riding high in the polls for the exact same reason.

I said this WEEKS ago. Carson is nothing but another RINO.
A white man with Carson’s ‘qualifications’ would be laughed off the stage.

Yes.

And by the way, Fidel Castro started out as Catholic and made some major changes.

[Make a case FOR your candidate rather the posting these childish personal attacks.]

We do make a case FOR our candidate by posting CARSON’S positions. CARSON has made conflicting statements regarding abortion issues as well as disturbing views on medical treatment for the elderly. Recent statements say he is 100%, however, his writings and statements show another side. Could it be his original sentiments are affecting his candidacy?

The Conservative Review has an unbiased rating of candidates based on their quotes and writings. Carson has received a BAD rating on immigration and foreign affairs. Go to the site to read the comments.

BEN CARSON - ON MEDICAL CARE FOR THE ELDERLY
(He’s for a panel to decide which seniors deserve lifesaving treatment/end of life care, and which ones don’t.)

[[Our mind-set is to automatically pull out all medical stops, even if that means literally torturing loved ones during their last few months of life. What if rather than always putting terminally ill patients in intensive care units, where we poke, prod, test, and operate ad nauseum, we allowed most people the dignity of dying in relative peace and comfort, at home, surrounded by loved ones, with hospice care or some other medical attendant if necessary?

Agreement on who should be treated and who should not be treated would require an extensive national discussion that could hopefully result in some helpful basic guidelines. Obviously any such guidelines should allow for flexibility and choice. And decisions should be based not merely on age but on the viability of the patient. (From his 1999 book, The Big Picture.)]]

BEN CARSON - ON SOCIAL ISSUES
Carson has expressed support for same-sex civil unions, and following the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, he conceded the fight was over by declaring the ruling the “law of the land.” (Newsmax)

Despite maintaining a strong pro-life record, in a 1992 interview, Dr. Carson said that while he does not perform abortions, he personally referred women seeking abortions to other doctors. In the same interview, he said that he “would never advocate it’s illegal for a person to get an abortion” (Baltimore Sun)

Dr. Carson co-authored a medical research paper in 1992 where he outlined his support for the use of aborted baby organs for research purposes. Carson defended his past statements, saying “To not use the tissue that is in a tissue bank, regardless of where it comes from, would be foolish. Why would anybody not do that?”

Numerous conservatives have expressed that by providing the demand that abortion providers will supply the market and that participating in this practice is being complicit. (Life Site News)

As revelations came to light about Dr. Carson referring the mothers of unborn children with potential birth defects to abortionists, his campaign defended the practice. A campaign spokesman said, “He [Carson] believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information.”

Pressed on whether Carson stands by his decision to do so, the same spokesman said yes. The statement is particularly troubling given that pro-abortion proponents use similar language regarding a decision between the patient and their doctor, but not mentioning the life of the child. (Politico)

Since news surfaced of a 1992 research paper co-authored by Dr. Carson that included the use of fetal tissue, Carson’s stance on abortion has come under immense scrutiny and his defense of his previous medical decisions has been troubling to many in the pro-life movement.

When asked if Carson stands by his past decision to refer patients to abortion doctors,Carson’s Communications Director said, “He believes in quality medical care, No. 1, and secondly, he believes in people making their own decisions based on facts and information.” Additionally, the spokesman went on to say that Carson believes that you can’t stop abortion by making it illegal. The spokesman told Politico, “He [Carson] has always believed that the battle over abortion had to be waged in the hearts and minds of Americans, that you cannot legislate morality. But he also believes we’re winning the debate.” (Politico)

In the 1990s, Carson was a board member of the Baltimore Charitable Foundation which gave $200,000 in grants to Planned Parenthood. When confronted with this fact, and asked if Carson knew about the grants a spokesman said, “It doesn’t really matter.” (Politico)

When asked if he would support abortion in the case of incest or rape, Dr. Carson said, “I would hope that they would very quickly avail themselves of the emergency room, and in the emergency room, they have the ability to administer RU-486 and other possibilities before you have a developing fetus.”

RU-486 is an abortifacient that kills a fertilized egg by artificially denying it the ability to attach to the uterine wall. Using Dr.Carson’s own standard of life beginning at conception, this would then constitute murder. (Politico)

During the campaign Dr. Carson has struggled to define when he believes life begins. He told ABC News that life begins “when the heart stops beating” but later clarified that he meant conception. (Politico)

I don’t think so. If you say you’re voting for Carson, both liberals and conservatives have a conniption. And there’s nothing liberals despise more than a black Republican.

My guess is that people are considering Carson because he comes across as a nice guy - the opposite of Trump.

IMHO, Dr. Carson’s whole demeanor is one of a gifted doctor/surgeon - not a POTUS, which is actually a step down for him.

If only he’d stuck to commenting on politics, not actually running for office.

Ummm, the fact that he is an outsider and doesn’t have legislative record to condemn him?

Ben Carson's distinguished medical background and genial manner make him uniquely credible and appealing as a critic of Obamacare and as a potential reformer of the American healthcare system. That is particularly of interest to Republican primary voters, who skew toward an older demographic reliant on or near to Medicare coverage and worried about their need for affordable, quality health care to remedy the ailments of aging.

In addition, Carson draws GOP social conservative support in that he is a faithful Christian of the fundamentalist Seventh Day Adventist sect. Here too, for devoted Christian Republicans, Carson's soft voice, pleasant manner, and relative lack of political bombast tend to add to the strength and sincerity of his presentation.

Yes in reality Ben Carson is a terrible candidate. I think part of it is he has come under very little scrutiny. Even Trump is hesitant to go after him. Carson as I expected did stumble badly on Wed night. I look for him to start fading as people become aware of what his positions really are. The guy is totally unqualified and unprepared to be President.

I still maintain that Carson’s numbers are basically, pro-outsider, anti-Trump numbers. If you’re looking for an outsider, but don’t like Trump, he’s your guy. Nothing related to his debate performances would drive these numbers.

I think there’s a lot of people on FR who subconsciously function this way, sad to say, and still call themselves conservatives.

And then there’s the others who suspect this but are too timid to say so.

“...He is Black and a conservative Republican...”

He’s a *conservative* republican? Since when? Or does the author mean, “he’s a republican somewhat more conservative than 0bama and most democrats.”

If we happen to like a black candidate it's racism,
if we don't like a black candidate it's even more racism.

Sigh!

I long for the day when they stop throwing accusations of racism at every turn.
None of these pundits even stop to consider that a large percentage of the electorate listen to what Carson says and what he stands for, not what he looks like.
