There is a solid argument to be made that forcing Donald Trump to sign the Republican Pledge was step one in this RNC/GOPe strategy. He’s now locked in the Thunderdome!
When you fully understand the scope of how the Republican National Committee organized the entire road map to elect Jeb Bush, you begin to understand why Reince Priebus needed to lock the door behind Trump before unleashing the thugs upon him.
Hundreds of millions will be spent on this RNC/GOPe effort to destroy Trump. It will be unlike any scorched earth campaign ever witnessed. The brutality of the intended targeting is so severe, even the New York Times is willing to broadcast the bloodbath.

And this expenditure plus this NYT article will go completely unnoticed by the Trump Team. Sure it will. In fact, the whole world will know and Trump will beat the GOPe to death with it.
If this article is correct then Trump will run 3rd party. So are probably right. Either a Trump Plant or a NYT Fantasy. I'm actually betting on the latter.
The GOPe is only interested in destroying that which they cannot force to be in favor of their Big Government.

Yea, okay guy, we all get it, you hate Trump.
Yes of course. I agree with his strategy. There are theories about why he is doing this.
Some say that he has a secret agreement to be Trump’s VP. I believe this is the least likely theory. Other’s think it is a smart move and that he is waiting for Trump to fall out of the race or fall out of favor and Trumps support will fall to him. That makes sense to me. But I think that is just part of it.
I’ve often thought that perhaps he thinks that eventually the American public will get serious and realize that they really are voting for the next POTUS, put on their big-boy pants and vote using their common sense. Maybe maybe not. Can’t say there was much common sense used in the last couple of presidential elections.
Still others think that he is sure enough of himself and his ideas for American that he doesn’t feel the need to attack Trump. That his ideas will stand on their own.
Cruz does disagree with Trump on more than a few issues. Today we saw that with Trump’s statement on the Davis issue. Will this be brought up in the debates? Cruz is a very skilled debater and knows how it works. He will not personally attack Trump but he will challenge his policies and ideas. Politely:)
I think that Cruz believes that he can win with his ideas & his conservative voting record. I also think he believes that there is no upside for him to go after Trump right now. He is a very smart man.
I think that the repub party has made a huge mistake going after Trump the way they have. It makes them look afraid of him, unsure of their own values and policies, small & petty.
Criticize his statements, policies etc. Absolutely! Trying to keep him out of debates and off of ballots? Foolish.
What I think scares the GOP about Trump is that they cannot control him. I think they are also afraid of Cruz for the same reason. If Trump wasn’t doing so well they’d be doing it to Cruz too. And they will.
If people think that Trump will get along with Congress any better than Cruz they are kidding themselves. They will do everything possible to make things difficult if not impossible for Trump. Some people think that Cruz is not electable because he won’t get co-operation from Congress. If so, then Trump should be a non-starter.
I believe that Trump is doing so well because a) many on the right like what he says about immigration and the military. They like his bravado and his plain speaking. There are democrats and moderates who like him because many of his statements and beliefs are to the left of the conservatives. When was the last time a moderate was run by the repubs and won? We can’t keep making the same mistakes.

Given how effective the GOPe has been at everything else, this can only help Trump.
