Megyn Kelly, Donald Trump & Equality

Henry Drummond: Madam, you may vote but at a price. You lose the right to retreat behind the powder puff or your petticoat.

Inherit the Wind 1960

There was one dynamic & theme of yesterday’s debate and the follow-up coverage that struck a nerve with me.

Anyone who knows me knows that I tend to be polite. I was brought up by people born in the 1920’s. I hold a door for a woman and I tip my fedora to them. I don’t believe in talking about women in the crass way that our culture does today. It’s not what I do, it’s not what I’ve taught my sons an I don’t approve of it.

That being said, I was extremely offended by the questions concerning tweets to Rosie O’Donnell by Megyn Kelly,

The question itself was one of several that had no place on that stage (Showing that the real difference between Fox & the rest of the MSM is not that they are easier on the GOP but are just as hard on Democrats)

Here is the full exchange:

Kelly: Mr. Trump, one of the things people love about you is you speak your mind and you don’t use a politician’s filter. However, that is not without its downsides, in particular, when it comes to women. You’ve called women you don’t like “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.” Your Twitter account…

Trump: Only Rosie O’Donnell.

Kelly: No, it wasn’t. Your Twitter account…

Trump: Thank you.

Kelly: For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell.

Trump: Yes, I’m sure it was.

Kelly: Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks. You once told a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president, and how will you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton, who was likely to be the Democratic nominee, that you are part of the war on women?

Trump: I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people, and I don’t frankly have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time either. This country is in big trouble. We don’t win anymore. We lose to China. We lose to Mexico both in trade and at the border. We lose to everybody. And frankly, what I say, and oftentimes it’s fun, it’s kidding. We have a good time. What I say is what I say. And honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry. I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me. But I wouldn’t do that. But you know what, we — we need strength, we need energy, we need quickness and we need brain in this country to turn it around. That, I can tell you right now.

As soon as the debate was over every single network was hitting Donald Trump for these remarks and it didn’t stop when the morning came. It was all about how Donald Trump was acting like a misogynist, who women were going to be offended etc etc etc.

That has been the these on every network since last night and the light of day hasn’t made a single change in the argument.

The problem with this argument is three-fold:

1. Trump’s statement concerning Rosie O’Donnell was not decorous, but it was highly accurate.

2. The Primary qualification for almost every women on these panels is physical attractiveness

3. When Megyn Kelly went after Trump this way he reacted the same way he does when anyone attacks him, he punches back.

It reminds me of a sequence from an old Justice League comic. During the big fight A Superhero from the future named Booster Gold finds himself face to face with a female super villain and they have the following exchange:

Female Villain: [Making suggestive pose] You wouldn’t hit a girl would you?

Booster Gold: [scratching his head] Well, you see…

BAM!

[Looking at the super villain lying on the floor] …in my time equality of the sexes is a given so we can hit anybody.

Female Villain: [Dizzy from the floor] Ohh thanks for explaining that to me.

That’s exactly how Donald Trump treated Megan Kelly

You can’t have it both ways, you can’t insist that women are equal and can compete in what is called a “man’s world” and then run for cover and profess shock when you are not treated under the rules of chivalry that you have rejected.

Donald Trump is not very complicated. He functions in a tough world full of strong men and women who he employs and competes with and in his world when someone hits him he hits back. He treated Megyn Kelly the same way he would treat anyone else who challenged or attacked him.

There’s a word for that, it’s called Equality.

You might think it’s boorish, you might think it’s impolite but you can’t say it’s not equal.

If the MSM thinks that women & men are equals then they should adjust their expectations accordingly, but if they believe that woman are fragile flowers who can’t take the punches that Donald Trump then they are proving that they, not Trump don’t belong on the big stage

Update: Megyn not Megan

Update 2: There is throwing a Punch and there is being an ass, or in the immortal words of Beldar Conehead: Mebs Mebs UNACCEPTABLE!

Kelly to Trump....”You once told a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees.”...

Kelly failed greatly to finish that the contestant was “begging” for opportunity. Which left her statement open to slide in the gutter...and only one who is in the gutter herself could have framed it so.

Smegyn Kelly has had her time in the "Hot Sh@t" chair and now needs to go sit in the 2nd tier stable at the topless bar.

Because I wouldn't trust her to make an honest sandwich.

Very good article....

I posted last week the era Trump grew up in, and this is exactly what I was talking about...

Trump also is in ‘world’ business along with our Country’s business...

As I have said a lot, he is a businessman, and he doesn’t pull punches...you go after him, you best be prepared, he’s like a ‘viper’ and will attack you...

If you don’t want to be treated like that, then don’t attack...Ms.Kelly did just that and she got slapped down and in this P.C. crappy world we live in, ‘the little darlings’ can’t take it....

Yes, then she was offered a prime position behind Erick Ericksons apron strings.

It would have been funny if trump had said to her, “Would you be sitting there if you were not physically attractive?

Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president, and how will you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton, who was likely to be the Democratic nominee, that you are part of the war on women?

Good grief, Megan. How totally irrelevant can you be???

The so-called "war on women" is a tired, old (and provably quite irrelevant) nostrum out of the past two presidential election cycles. Why do you wish to keep this cruddy thinking alive?

Methinks it's time for you to cut your hair, which looks like so much seaweed about your face nowadays.

Dear Megan, if you are trying to be some kind of female impersonator of Bill O'Reilly, then you are on the right course.

But if you are, I will increasingly think that, like O'Reilly, fundamentally you are in it only for yourself. Therefore, you must lose your news journalism creds, and become yet another news "opinionater."

So please: Cut your hair. The way it was when you got back from your last pregnancy was the "real you."

This seaweed thing is unacceptable — unless you are trying to present yourself as some kind of "birth of Venus," as in the imagination of a Sandro Botticelli....

While I would have treated Megyn more gently, with words that would have answered her insinuations, but in a tone that would have been slightly flirtatious--that is patronizing her, treating her as an attractive woman, even if one confused as to what should have been the priorities in an actual debate--which Thursday was not. I would have kept it going just long enough to completely blow her "cool," and take away any sense that she could keep the upper hand. I think that Donald has to learn to take different tones to different situations. That is very important. He can not be Teddy Roosevelt in every confrontation, and remain effective.

I have been posting my impressions, and some tactical suggestions.

From a debate standpoint, there was virtually no debate. The Fox crew were on some sort of mission, if not an outright ego trip. They hogged much of the airtime, by directing often long queries against carefully isolated two-somes; obviously with greater hostility towards some candidates than others.

From the standpoint of oratorical techniques--I am a lifelong student of oratorical techniques--Rubio & Huckabee used their time rather well; so to a slightly lesser degree did Cruz & Carson. But none of the candidates had sufficient opportunity to show their rhetorical abilities, because of the ego or mission trip of the "moderators."

Also, for reasons of the same constraints, none of the candidates had much of an opportunity to develop any points with meaningful clarity--None!

Now, my personal bias from the start was in favor of Cruz and Trump, so I certainly appreciate Donald's ire at the way he was handled. But he needs to master two arts, which have served successful candidates throughout American history.

He needs to know when to use ire as an effective weapon & when to hold back an open display and effectively understate his displeasure with the choice of words that show he also has grace. (This can often be a very effective way to actually transfer the ire that you feel to a listener or supporter, who will feel the anger that you are suppressing by the understatement. Hollywood uses this concept endlessly to create emotional impact in movie dramas.)

Secondly, Donald needs to get a bit of Celtic lilt into his remarks, coupled with a Reaganesque smile. Again, this is a technique for stroking emotions. It is important, because ultimately most politics is driven by emotion.

Donald is completely right that there is no time to be "politically correct"; but for the same reason, it is essential to be as effective in reaching a multi-faceted, mnulti-emotion driven, audience, as possible.

Excellent analysis...exactly on cue. NO more PC crap when it comes to women who want to play with the big league.

No more PC crap in protecting women of power just because they are women.

Megan Kelly is behaving viciously as when a woman is scorned, is it a possibility that she made a move on Donald and he rejected her.......maybe she thought she should have been the next Mrs. Trump.....

Something is just not right, if she was just going after him for his politics, her questions would be different. I think she is after some kind of Revenge for something he did or did not do....aka revenge.

Of course, Donald is not the kiss and tell type, so he would never reveal anything like that, and she knows he would not, so she uses this method to take him down.

Just curious.....I think she may have been romantically Dissed by the Donald at one time.

Well I certainly don’t think that was anything nice.

To me, knowing this Erick POS, that would be a big slap in the face and here Ms. Kelly is taking like it’s a compliment...is she really that immature????

I wouldn’t have come anywhere this ‘convention’ of Erick’s but that’s me...

But the very idea of equality of the sexes is an aberration. In nature, they complement--that is they complete each other. That has nothing to do with equality--a mathematical concept.

Trump should have acknowledged her strong point--not her logic; not her priorities; not her sense of proportion; not her misunderstanding of what a "debate" actually is (this was not a debate). Her strong point is that she is a very attractive girl; and that puts every normal man at a little disadvantage. But acknowledging that point, would have been one way to turn the tables on her; to put everything into perspective. He could have quietly coupled a nice comment on her looks, but with a factual explanation that his private comments to particular people--whether blunt or crude or whatever--had nothing to do with an airing of what he would do as President for the loyal men & women of America.

First time I actually read the Transcript rather than the one time I heard the exchange, and the leaps and bounds Megyn made to turn this into something is astounding to me.

Trump replied “thank you” and “I'm sure it was” as she dug the hole deeper. I had completely missed that.

She did not present his comments in context. Rosie attacked him personally on the View when he was not there to respond before he replied in kind on Twitter and it turns out the “on your Knees” comment was never made by Trump, but a Male Contestant on his Show. I think is was another Male Contestant that was on his knees begging his Team Mates not to get him Fired.

I'm sure someone here can validate what really happened on The Apprentice. I am only going by other Posts that I have read.

The Woman who was supposedly involved said she doesn't remember a thing about it and she said Trump always treated her with Respect.

Did Megyn apologize for presenting her “Facts” out of Context or making them up? Then she pulls the War On Women meme?

I asked this on another Thread. Since Trump has been in Business for Decades and is as big a Deep Pockets Target as they come, has he ever been successfully Sued for Sexual Harassment? If not, he must be one of the Stealthiest Misogynists out there.

Thanks for the transcript.

Remember when Hillary Clinton was running for Senator, she was having her debate with the Republican who took a paper with some proof of some kind of wrongdoing that Hillary had done, he took it over to her podium. It was a strong forceful move that made Hillary look compromised. What was the headlines the next day? The Republican “violated her space”. Huh? He didn’t punch her in the eye he merely brought a document to her podium.

Typical feminist behavior—throw a punch but don’t you dare hit them back.

How about this— we need battered women shelters but we need to put women in fighting positions in war and police work. And when are we going to see women playing in the NFL? I am woman hear me roar but you had better not raise your voice to me.

A feminist comment from Gloria Steinem in the 1970’s...”A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” How about feminists repeatedly referring to mothers as “baby factories”. Or an English or Australian feminist saying...”I think motherhood is soppy”. There is a reason that women are not referred to as ladies anymore—the feminist ridiculed the word lady into oblivion.

Feminists can be disrespectful to women and men but everyone has to mind their language around them.

By the way, I am a woman.

I’m not even a huge Trump fan; but I also don’t need anyone deciding for me who I can hear and not hear. Erick should be feeling some discomfort for this.
Her too. Last thing she should want is to be rescued by a -—gasp....man.
Pfffft...
Well we’ll just have to sit back and watch them shove Jebush in our faces. Or that nice guy Chris Kristie.
