The word belie means to give a false impression, or to demonstrate the falsity of. I think the author means "...demonstrated their intellectual impotence...".

My recommendation to how to respond to them is a good belly laugh and something like "is that the best you have?" or "Oh, Oh, you really hurt me there ... what will I do?"
Show them directly that they have NO power over you, and that you consider them lower than whale poop on the ocean floor.
I think it is the American way, and the primary rationale for creating and defending the 1st Amendment, to laugh at, ridicule, snark, and belittle your opponents (once they initiate a verbal attack).
I have to believe that a fair number of FReepers will at least smile, if not bust out laughing, at the snarky and humorous comments and visuals posted here in response to yet another leftist verbal attack on Conservatives.
I reserve the right to belittle ANY leftist who is attacking in the hopes to destroy this country, just as I reserve the right to leave them be, if and when, they decide to stop.
Let's keep hackin' and slashin' at the tentacles of communism (and Islamism), and let the chips fall where they may!
