Writing an opinion piece to Michigan State University’s paper the State News, Rashad Timmons says that microaggressions are causing him several medical afflictions. His letter was titled, “Intentional or not, microaggressions severely impact underrepresented members of society.”
According to Timmons, people who “are not privileged” are suffering greatly from the intentional and unintentional triggers that others are causing. “On a campus,” he writes, ” — and nation at large — in which whiteness, patriarchy, heteronormativity, cissexism, ableism and classism prevail, students that are not privileged by these constructs often have difficulty navigating hegemonic, oppressive environments.”
Timmons writes about different maladies that have come about because of these microaggressions.
He writes that some people have “pressure in the chest” after a microaggression. “It leads you,” he explains with specificity, “to the public restroom on the second floor — too much traffic on the first — of some indiscriminate building that you stumbled into only out of proximity and the immediate need for safety and silence."
...White people, straight people, males, people who are not disabled, those who identify as their birth sex, and those who are not poor must check their “privilege,” Timmons explains.
“To do this,” he concludes, “we must understand and be accountable for our privilege. We must be willing to address the uncomfortable in a wholly racialized, politicized and sexualized society to create safer spaces for all to exist and thrive in.”

Rashad, if you really want to tally up all the government handouts and taxes that we pay (well those of us who DO pay) you’d clearly see the white man is denied access to those same programs all the time bacuse people like yourself auomatically assume that just because our skin is white that we live in mansions, drive or rather are chaueffered around in Rolls Royces, eat caviar, and roll around on mattresses stuffed with money. What do you have to say about JayZ, Kanye West, and Rhianna? Yeah I thought so. Crickets...
But of course you don’t reall suffer this affiction do you? You just wanted o be the author of a new liberal label everyone can throw around because you need attention, right?
A person who cannot even hyperventilate in a bathroom because there are too many people there is in need of serious professional help. He needs to get it before he freaks out and starts killing people.
The bad part is that these are the types of people that shoot up schools.

Why? Because some college kid says so? Is this what the focus on self-esteem in K-12 schools has brought us to?

I think that feeling is called "jealousy" and "envy." In college, you're supposed to feel small and unaccomplished as you learn of all the Great Works that came before you.
Then, when you graduate, you are motivated with the new knowledge to go forth and succeed.
But you don't begin your college career with the idea that you are the center of the universe and everyone else must cater to your perceived slights.

What should people who had no control in having to be born white and able do to make the rest feel better? We could chop our arms off. Maybe a leg. Maybe we should be brought to the town square and rounded up and taken to camps. Jolly good, we could be victims then!

I had to look it up as I'm seeing it more and more.
"Cis" as in "Cisgendered", "Cismale", "Cisfemale", etc. means that you identify with the gender that you were born as and you are sexually attracted to people of the opposite gender.
"Cis" describes 99 percent of the population and is what we used to refer to as "normal".
But we can't say "normal" these days as this would imply everyone else is "abnormal". Hence the new and growing term "Cis" --a term I will never use.
