The University of Minnesota has banned the use of race when describing crime suspects when only a "limited" amount of information is known about them. Specifically, if the race of the suspect is known, but some other identifiable traits are not, the college will not release the race of the criminal.
The college uses "Crime Alerts" to warn students of suspects or criminals who may endanger them. However, over the course of several months, the university has looked into how to improve the system. The solution that they announced yesterday: you can no longer identify a suspect using his race if not much is known about him or her.
The University of Minnesota's President, Eric Kaler, explained that their "Crime Alerts may unintentionally reinforce racist stereotypes of Black men, and other people of color, as criminals and threats.
"That in turn," he continued, "can create an oppressive climate for some members of our community, a climate of suspicion and hostility."

So if a burning cross appears in my yard, we should be on the look out for Black Roman Catholics, right?
Seriously, this is stupid.
If there is no race description, we know they are black.
If there is a known name, but not in article, we know it is “Mohammed” something.
logic has no place in a politically correct world. This is cultural and civilizational suicide

Sadly, you are absolutely correct. Liberals have turned us into a neurotic nation obsessing over the political correctness of everything. Its destroying us.
If I were a parent of a student there, I would file a complaint with the US Department of Education who is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the Jeanne Clery Act which dictates the requirements schools and universities are obligated to log and report crimes in seven different categories.
In my opinion, NOT identifying the race of the perpetrator is violation of the act which requires the institution to use multiple sources (e.g., police reports, incident reports, etc.) in their statistical recordkeeping and notification requirements.
I doubt they have even gone back to the Act and seen what they are required to do and considered the impact and implications of violating parents’ right to know.
As a former university employee I get these notifications all the time; EVERY one of them names the race of the perpetrators - all black, every one. I have never seen one that said “race: white”
No, it includes the work "man"
Could happen.
So the students can just assume on hearing the alerts that a warning is about a black person. That shouldn’t be difficult to figure out even for college students.
Crazy! Describing race is a major help in identifying suspects.
stereotypes are rooted in reality... “racist” or not.
Suspect is described as a 6 feet tall, amorphous glob of colorless humanoid goo.
See - that’s the problem...
people notice “patterns” and “commonalities” amongst the perps,
and that leads to generalizations and caution based on those commonalities.
It isn’t a ‘pattern’ or ‘generalization’ when (literally) every Clery Act I have ever received over multiple years has identified black suspects.
Great Idea!
Now people will just assume all described are black.
The ostrich approach. That should solve the hugely disproportionate black crime perpetration problem.
Political Correctness is going to kill us all.
“Yeah, people got robbed, assaulted, raped, even murdered. We could have stopped it easily. But we didn’t... and we can rest easy at night because we took the high road and we chose to be Politically Correct.
Many people were assaulted.
Many people were raped.
Many people were killed.
But at least nobody’s feelings were hurt.”
These people are crazy. Looney toons. Freaking nuts.
All generalizations are bad!
Isaiah writes of the woes to those who write unjust laws and who exchange evil for good...
Judgment’s coming to them...
Might as well... statistically you’d be nearly 100% correct with the assumption.
At least, they are slaves to their neurotic compulsions! No one benefits from this denial of reality--no one, but demagogues & scoundrels! (To look at just how ridiculous this all is, see Compassion Or Compulsion".)
How can any rational person defend the suppression of the physical description of a crime suspect being sought by the Police? There is absolutely no rational justification for this sort of thing--none, whatsoever! Yet more and more, we are forced to live in a world that has fallen down the rabbit hole with Alice!
