Heavier women are more likely to be lighter in the wallet, reports a new study that says obese females tend to occupy lower-paying, more-strenuous jobs in less-visible corners of the U.S. workforce when compared to average-sized women and men.
In fact, the link between extra pounds and leaner paychecks is distinct: When a woman becomes overweight, she already is less likely to land a public-facing role in better-paying white-collar jobs, according to research released Tuesday by Vanderbilt University.
And women who are considered obese or morbidly obese based on their body mass indexes are more likely to forced into some of the cheapest-paying, most labor-intensive roles in industries such as home health, food prep and child care, said Jennifer Shinall, the study's author and an assistant professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School....

“not to be too blunt. but Jim Fixx is quite dead as well.”
He is also the only example anyone can ever seem to conjure up to make that counterpoint, whereas we have countless examples of the other end of the spectrum.
I work with some “heavy hitters” (of both genders), and contrary to popular belief it isn’t all about genetics or glandular problems; most bear some (or all) responsibility for their condition. A person who is lazy and/or undisciplined in other aspects of their life might be the same with work; as someone who is 20-30 pounds overweight I understand it is completely my fault.
A couple of these people base their work around their lunches, and get upset if you come to them at 11:45 with a question; they are already in “lunch mode”...
Here’s an awful punchline: Flip through the rolls until you smell sh!t, then go back one.
See, I don’t think it’s that simple. I believe it’s in some people’s genes to be fat and unless they starve themselves will always be fat. I was size 3 all my life until hit 40. I don’t eat any more than I used to. I do get less exercise but that’s because I get strange, lasting pain (hurts to the touch) in my chest when I do...it lasts for days after a couple of moderate cardio workouts. I don’t like it.
I’m definitely disassociating myself from that!
Yes, perhaps the real issue is that lack of self-discipline and drive result both in not getting ahead and not staying fit.
They fit into the category of “We will pay you what you’re worth” and they reply, “I can’t live on that”, so folks have to make a stink that those with less to offer end up with less pay - it may be just, but it ain’t “fair”....

Unless there is a medical reason for the overweight, my theory is that overweight people have other issues, anger, they were molested as a child, they have poor impulse control, etc.
They needed a study for this? Of course, there is progress:
Tess Holliday, Size-22 Model, Is First to Score a Major Modeling Contract

And there’s the Big Lots commercial lady:

That’s all I got.
I know it is probably wrong, considering I am an old woman and overweight, but when I see an overweight woman, I assume she isn’t very smart. When I see an attractive woman, I assume she is smart. Not sure where that perception comes from, but I don’t think I’m alone in it.

so the late Mr Fixx will not be alone.
And an Abstract from Medical Journal
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3298928
So, for the young athletes, the major cause was undetected congenital conditions, not something due to their lifestyle choices. For the marathon runners, most of them were ignoring warning signs and avoiding treatment it seems.
Seems like a solid theory, but I would say that applies more to “obese” people than just overweight. Somebody with a few extra pounds or a bit of a “beer belly” is probably just a bit lazy, or doesn’t have the best willpower. When it gets to the point where they are obviously endangering their own health recklessly, then I’d say they have deeper issues.
Overweight Women Tend To Earn Smaller Paychecks, Study Claims

More truisms. Applies to men and women, all people....
Short People Tend To Earn Smaller Paychecks, Study Claims.
Ugly People Tend To Earn Smaller Paychecks, Study Claims.
TATTOOED People Tend To Earn Smaller Paychecks, Study Claims.
While many can’t help being short, they can help it if they have tattoos. Why people want to get tats AND throw money away in lower salary levels is beyond me.
With due regard for you feelings please factor this into your rationalization. As we get older we burn less calories and eat more because we are bored. I can tell you that a 35 year old will burn 3500 cal in an average day . By the time youre are 50— its sown to 2200 cal/per day. That simply means that to lose fat you must intake less than 2200 cal. Exercise will burn about 350 cals per 30 minute segment ( simple walking) and tone muscles. If you want I can guarantee the workout and cal intake that will drop you 3 pounds in week one and average 5 ponds a month. The issue is self discipline and desire to turn it around. God Bless you ( but God doesn’t eat for you). Take charge of you body. That genetic crap is a lie. Email me if you want. I am 70 and work out 4 times a week 60 minutes but you don’t start where I am. Extend your life— NOW!!
That's pretty much true, I know this because I have cut my caloric intake daily to 1500, and I've been losing pretty much a pound per week, without exercising, whereas in the past when I cut my intake to that amount, the pounds literally fell off even if I didn't exercise.
Exercise does nothing for weight. In fact ,it makes you hungry. It tones muscle and increases heart strength. It is a must but your calories are what works. It is simple physics—less in the better But we must have a day off! I like Thursdays. I have a great dinner on Thursdays but because my stomach has shrunk it is within reason. The key is mind set. God helps those who help themselves. Look inward not Godward. He has 7.2 billion living souls on Earth and close to 1 billion in Heaven. He could care less about you being fat. Its your turn to take responsibility. It is a marathon — not a sprint. There is no defeat unless you will defeat. Focus.
At 5’4” and 145 lbs. right now, I think I only need to lose about 10 lbs. I certainly don’t want to keep gaining because extra pounds tend to go to my belly and apparently that’s a dangerous place to have the extra weight(not sure how that works) but man, just to find the energy to workout is major hard, sitting at a desk at job has made me laaazy.
